The Serengeti is perhaps the most famous national park in Africa, where an abundance of wildlife and a huge area make it one of the most popular parks to visit. The park covers over 15,000 square kilometres, encompassing a number of individual reserves and conservation areas. Serengeti National Park holidays are part of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit, and a trip here is easily combined with other national parks.

The vast and diverse landscape must be seen to be believed, whether that’s from a light aircraft flight over the plains or rumbling along rough dirt roads in a four-wheel drive vehicle. The grassy, verdant savannah meets the horizon in a shimmer of heat haze, its open vista dotted with hardy antelope such as eland, Thomson’s gazelle and topi. Within the dense acacia forest, thick tree cover provides shelter to predatory big cats, such as cheetah and lion. Serengeti National Park holidays can also visit the wide rivers of the park, where hippos and crocodiles co-exist in begrudging harmony.
