Discover some of Kenya's rare species and its cultural rituals of Laikipia and Samburu

Laikipia Plateau is a vast wilderness area which sits between Mount Kenya and Aberdare Mountains to the eastern edge of Rift Valley, dropping to the northern arid lands of Kenya.

The destination was historically ranching land until the 1980s when two conservancies spearheaded conservation to protect the black rhinos and existing wildlife. Due to their success, the landscapes have since attracted further eco and community owned conservancies to the Plateau. Now, Laikipia is one of the most frequented parts of Kenya.

Laikipia offers an array of safari activities, including walking safaris, horse-riding safaris, fly-camping, hiking, helicopter flights and climbs up Mount Kenya to name a few.

Samburu, on the other hand, is a year-round destination due to its warm climate. The vast expanse in northern Kenya is a unique wildlife haven for the rare species known as the ‘Special Five’ – Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and beisa oryx.

Samburu is notably known for its cultural and colourfully decorated tribes. So, grasp an opportunity to visit the local villages for an insight into their traditions and unique way of life.
