Itinerary

Board your overnight flight from the UK to Bogota, then continue on to Cuzco.
Upon arrival, transfer to the Sacred Valley, to take advantage of its mild climate and lower altitude. Check in to the Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado, your luxurious first stop. Here, feast your eyes on the stunning views over the Urubamba River and relax around the luxurious hotel, finishing your evening with a delicious meal at El Huerto, which serves delicious Andean cuisine.
Explore the endless charm of the Sacred Valley and visit the many traditional villages, like market town Chinchero and Ollantaytambo, which is home to an ancient fortress. The Sacred Valley is ripe for exploration, with Incan ruins, weaving towns and thriving markets among its attractions. The hills and rocky terrain have given rise to some outstanding trekking routes that afford stunning views across the valley.
Head for the railway station at Ollantaytambo, where you will board your train to Aguas Calientes. The journey is a meandering and windy journey that heightens the entire experience of visiting Machu Picchu. When you arrive, take the time to admire the structure of the ancient citadel, and spend the afternoon exploring its many secrets. Tonight you will stay at the charming Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, which is ideally situated right near Machu Picchu’s gate.
Head to Machu Picchu to watch the sunrise, and make the most of this quiet time to take some photos and explore. A climb up to the Intipunku (Sun Gate) is a great way to get a different perspective on the spectacular surrounding views. After some intrepid exploring, board the luxurious Belmond Hiram Bingham train and journey to the city of Cuzco. Enjoy a delicious dinner in the 1920s-style dining car, before checking into your Cuzco accommodation – the glorious Belmond Hotel Monasterio.
Start your first day of exploration in Cuzco at the Plaza de Armas (main square), and then admire the magnificent cathedral. It took nearly 100 years to build, and it’s an iconic symbol of the city. Explore the city, making sure to admire the architecture on display at the Puka Pukara fortress and the ruins at Tambomachay.
Relax this morning with a delectable breakfast at the Belmond Hotel Monasterio’s restaurant, Illary. The restaurant, set overlooking the central courtyard, is the perfect place to relax and get ready for another day of exploration. Spend the rest of your day wandering the many winding streets of Cuzco, browsing the souvenir shops for classic Peruvian ceramics, handmade jewellery and charming clothes made from alpaca wool.
Climb aboard the Andean Explorer, the Luxury Belmond sleeper train, for the two night Peruvian Highlands journey. Sweep away from Cuzco and watch as you journey past pastoral scenery. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the train’s dining car, before visiting Templo de Viracocha, once a sacred Inca site. Back on the train, indulge in afternoon tea, as you continue to the highest point of your journey at La Raya. Watch the sunset from the train and relax in luxury.
This morning you will be treated to a gorgeous sunrise over the sparkling Lake Titicaca as you enjoy your breakfast on board. Then, traverse the lake and discover the traditional life of the Uros people and the torura reed islands. Enjoy lunch on Taquile Island, with entertainment provided by traditional dancers. After a full day learning all about Peruvian culture, relax back on board the train as you continue your journey towards Arequipa.
This morning, spot flamingos across the shimmering waters of Lake Lagunillas. This is a tranquil spot perfect for resting and relaxing. Later, visit the Sumbay Caves, where you can admire ancient Andean cave paintings. This afternoon, continue to Arequipa, Peru’s ‘White City’. Enjoy the views, backed by a stunning mountain vista. Depart the Andean Explorer before transferring to the airport for a flight to your final Peruvian stop in Lima.
Beautifully located with views across the Pacific Ocean, the Belmond Miraflores Park is a luxurious base from which to explore Peru’s capital city. To make the most of your whistle-stop tour of Lima, we have included the key highlights to visit, such as the area around the bustling Plaza de Armas, the Larco Herrera Museum and the cosmopolitan area of San Isidro with its well-manicured gardens.
Spend some more time exploring the sights of Lima. Visit the arts district of Barranco and admire the superb contemporary art at Galeria Lucia de la Puente. If you need a break, kick back at one of the excellent coffee shops clustered around the main plaza near the Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs), before enjoying lunch at Cala, which serves an innovative menu of Peruvian-Mediterranean fusion. Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
