Discover diverse landscapes – from deserts filled with cacti to the sparkling lights of Scottsdale and Phoenix. Drive through ponderosa pine forests and go off-road on 4X4 adventures through canyons and to mountain summits for panoramic views of Sedona’s Red Rock Country.

On the border of Utah, explore Lake Powell – the second largest man-made lake in the United States – where you can take gentle lake cruises or enjoy a whole host of watersports. Adventures are plentiful at Lake Powell, with scenic flights over Horseshoe Bend and the Rainbow Bridge National Monument, rafting trips down the Colorado River or hiking through the slot canyons at Antelope Canyon all on offer.

No visit to Arizona would be complete without spending time at one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, Grand Canyon National Park. Spend time hiking along the South Rim Trail or take a scenic helicopter flight over the canyon for a bird’s-eye view.

Your Arizona self-drive ends in Las Vegas, Nevada, where you can extend your holiday for a few nights if you wish.

Itinerary

Tucson
Sit back and relax aboard your flight across the Atlantic to Tucson, Arizona. On arrival make your way to the car rental desk and collect your rental vehicle for the short drive to your Tucson Hotel.
Tucson
Today is at your leisure to enjoy the facilities of your hotel or discover this beautiful region of Arizona. Tucson is set in Arizona’s vast Sonoran Desert, surrounded by multiple mountain ranges. Admire the grand mansions in the El Presido Historic District, and discover great restaurants and shops along Fourth Avenue. You may choose to go hiking, biking, horseback riding or join a guided cave tour at Colossal Cave Mountain Park; alternatively, opt for a round of golf on one of the spectacular championship golf courses.
This morning you will drive from Tucson to White Stallion Ranch, where you will spend four nights at this charming family owned guest ranch. You will be paired up with your horse after some time spent in the corral and then head out on a slow scenic ride.
Enjoy a full day of scheduled ranch activities. There are various rides available, including short slow scenic rides or, for experienced riders, half-day rides or fast rides across the desert. Other ranch activities include archery or optional off-ranch tours of the region for an additional fee.
White Stallion Ranch offers riding for all abilities and includes slow scenic rides, fast rides, mountain trails and full-day rides for the more experienced. There are a whole host of other ranch activities available including hiking and the White Stallion Rodeo.
Spend a full day at the ranch and enjoy some of the scheduled ranch activities or just laze by the pool or in the hot tub. If you are looking to hone your riding skills, you can arrange private riding lessons for a small hourly rate. Experienced riders have the option of heading out on an all-day ride or riding along mountain trails. Off-ranch activities can be arranged, including Jeep safaris into Saguaro National Park, hot air ballooning or golfing (there are 13 courses within a 30-minute drive).
Continue your drive north to Scottsdale and Phoenix, often referred to as the Valley of the Sun. The area is home to nearly 200 golf courses and superb shopping at Biltmore Fashion Park, Fashion Square, South Bridge and the Scottsdale Waterfront. Surrounded by the Sonoran Desert and mountain ranges, this region offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.
Enjoy a full day at leisure and make the most of the extensive facilities at your hotel or head out on one of the various desert adventures available in the area. Witness the vast desert landscape and dramatic mountain ranges from above on a hot air balloon ride, or hike to the top of Camelback Mountain for panoramic views.
Sedona
Continue your drive north to Sedona, the Red Rock Country. The scenery here is breathtaking with massive red rock buttes, dramatic canyons and the diverse ponderosa pine-filled Coconino National Forest. Sedona is an outdoor adventure playground with miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails, and also has a vibrant arts community. Staying at Amara Resort
Sedona
Today is free for you to explore the region at your leisure. There are several 4X4 Jeep tours on offer from Sedona, where you can explore ancient ruins or go off-road for exhilarating adventures to area that have been backdrops for some of Hollywood’s greatest Western movies. Travel deep into Verde Canyon on the Verde Canyon Railroad; this meticulously refurbished train takes you on a journey through spectacular canyon scenery. Staying at Amara Resort
Lake Powell
Continue north through Coconino National Forest passing through Flagstaff and towards the border of Utah. Set within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area lies Lake Powell, the second largest man-made lake in the United States. This region is renowned for dramatic red geological formations and canyons. Our Travel Specialists recommend a boat cruise or hiring a kayak for a paddle around the lake shore.

There are countless adventures and excursions available to help you discover the most of this area. Take a flightseeing tour of the lake or further afield to Rainbow Bridge National Monument. Take a rafting trip down the Colorado River or hike through the slot canyons at Antelope Canyon. If you are looking for a more sedate experience you can charter a boat and cruise to Lone Rock Beach or Warm Creek Bay for the day.
Upgrade to   Amangiri
Today’s drive will take you into the Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park. Depart early morning to ensure you have enough time to stop at the designated view points along Desert View Drive. Highlights include Desert View Watchtower and Grand View Point. Spend a full day exploring the magnificent Grand Canyon. There are several guided tours and hikes available for you to discover more of the canyon, including helicopter flights over and into the base of the canyon. For the ultimate exhilarating experience why not free-fall at speeds of up to 136 mph with Paragon Skydive to experience the Grand Canyon in a totally unique way. Depart Grand Canyon National Park this morning for your 270-mile drive to Las Vegas for your return flight to the UK. Alternatively, you may choose to extend your stay with a few nights in the ‘City That Never Sleeps’ and take in a Cirque du Soleil show or try your hand at the roulette wheel at one of the iconic casinos.
