Ideal for couples looking for a special experience to celebrate an upcoming milestone or honeymoon, this trip to Southern Asia excites with everything from a spa session in a rainforest to a visit to ancient Buddhist-Taoist temples. Singapore is an enchanting island where you can delve into a melting pot of cultures, whereas Malaysia has an abundance of natural wonders to fall in love with.

Beginning in Singapore, you have time to tour the city, taking in a plethora of its most iconic highlights – including the Merlion statue and Thian Hock Keng Temple. All of this and more is accompanied with a stay at the grandiose Raffles Hotel and its wealth of uber-luxe amenities.

From here, you board the timeless Eastern & Oriental Express, A Belmond Train, travelling between Gemas, Taman Negara and Penang. While unwinding in the comfort of your sumptuous suite, you’re able to witness beautiful Malaysian scenery passing by before exploring them for yourself. Taman Negara National Park is home to stunning jungle, rivers and mountains, and George Town in Penang is an arts and culture haven you’ll get to explore on a Vespa through its charming Old Quarter.

Lastly, the island of Langkawi is your destination for unwinding in a pristine, 10 million-year old rainforest setting. The Datai Langkawi harbours a white sandy beach you can sunbathe for hours on in addition to many activities, during which you immerse yourself in the lush scenery around you.

Itinerary

Fly from the UK to Singapore and transfer to your hotel, where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure with therapeutic spa treatments and the swimming pool. Overnight at Raffles Singapore.
Begin your delve into Singaporean culture with a tour around the Civic District past the Padang Cricket Club, Parliament House, Supreme Court and City Hall. The island country is also home to Merlion Park, where you’re able to snap a selfie with the area’s most iconic resident – the Merlion statue (a half lion, half fish mythological creature). Next up is the Thian Hock Keng Temple, an ancient Buddhist-Taoist place of worship adorned with an array of intricate carvings and sculptures. Finally, visit the National Orchid Garden followed by Little India. Overnight at Raffles Singapore.

Enjoy a day of relaxation or choose to explore the area some more. In the evening, you head into the Chinatown district for a tour, browsing lit-up stalls for traditional items like batiks, carpets, rattan basket-ware or exotic perfumes. After picking up some souvenirs, visit the Chinese Medical Hall to learn how alternative Chinese medicines help to regulate your yin and yang. Then board a bumboat for a cruise along the Singapore River. Winding through these waterways at night is unforgettable, as you’re able to watch the vibrant nightlife take place all around you. Cross the Singaporean—Malaysian border aboard the iconic Eastern & Oriental Express, watching as the scenery transitions from an urban cityscape to a wild, green landscape. Settle into your luxurious and cosy cabin, your moving home away from home for the next three nights. A delicious afternoon tea is served up for you to tuck into before soaking up majestic views passing by and enjoying dinner and the onboard entertainment. Taman Negara
Wake up in the morning for a mouthwatering breakfast while gazing out towards some of the wildest parts of Malaysia. Then, after lunch, arrive at Taman Negara National Park. This 130-million-year-old virgin rainforest is teeming with diverse wildlife from water buffalo to macaques and tapirs. To explore the dense jungle, trickling rivers and towering mountains, choose from a variety of excursions. For instance, you can meet local activists and learn how they protect the natural habitat. Or why not discover the otherworldly caves? Overnight on the Eastern & Oriental, A Belmond Train.
Savour yet another sumptuous breakfast before travelling to Penang, where you have access to a number of excursions. Hop on the backseat of a Vespa scooter with an expert guide to tour the island’s bustling arts and culture scene in George Town Old Quarter. Or, if you’re more of a foodie, discover the destination through its Peranakan cuisine with an excellent cooking class. Then rejoin the train at Butterworth for lunch and relaxation, perhaps opting for a rejuvenating spa treatment. You may also want to explore the city of Ipoh. Have breakfast before returning to Singapore. Then transfer to the airport for a flight to Langkawi. (Or enjoy an extra one or two nights at Raffles Singapore). Overnight at The Datai Langkawi.
Spend these last four nights of your luxury adventure at The Datai Langkawi. There are many fabulous facilities to fall in love with while you’re here – including the spa which is uniquely surrounded by lush rainforest. You also have access to optional tours. For example, there’s a jungle trek which gives you the chance to see colourful birdlife (like the orange-bellied flowerpecker) as well as several spectacular herbs and plants. You can also tour the urban and rural areas of Langkawi to see the process of traditional batik painting and climb the second highest mountain via cable car.
