Superb skiing and snowboarding opportunities await in the lesser-known Dolomites ski resort of Kronplatz.

Excellent conditions ensure the panettone-shaped mountain in Italy’s South Tyrol is a “guaranteed snow” destination. And part of the vast Dolomiti Superski area with 1,300km of slopes from the summit to the valley floor, it's the ideal location for a winter season break in Europe.

The modern lifts - of predominantly chairlifts and gondolas - make getting around quick and easy. While the diversity of ski runs and some 200 instructors across numerous ski schools mean the Kronplatz caters for all levels of skier; so great for groups with mixed ability.

An abundance of blue, wide slopes create a gentle snowscape for beginners and intermediate skiers, while experienced and advanced skiers can take on the thrill of the "Black Five". In fact, it's one of only a few places in the Alps to have five black slopes (Sylvester, Herrnegg, Pre da Peres, Erta and Piculin), as well as some long, challenging black runs which have been used by the Italian World Cup team as a training base.

Snowboarders covet the region for its pristine pistes and long ski season too, with two snow parks for freestylers; one for more advanced freestylers, the other great for beginners.

Whether you're a family on your first ski break, or a seasoned pro seeking a challenging new ski resort, Kronplatz is a fantastic all-rounder, and renowned for being quieter than the more famous Italian ski resorts.

There is plenty to experience besides the skiing and snowboarding too: at the top of Mount Kronplatz you can visit the Messner Mountain Museum designed by Zaha Hadid Architects; take the children on the tobogganing and sledging runs; go on a dog sledding excursion with a husky team or a horse sleigh ride around the old town of Bruneck; wander around the Lumen museum of mountain photography; or head down into the charming villages for tasty Italian cuisine.

Team this Italian ski resort with the collection of luxury hotels available around Kronplatz and you have the makings of a superb European ski break. Speak to an Inspiring Travel Specialist for a bespoke quote.
