Traverse through Europe’s most iconic cities aboard the Oceania Allura and discover the history-rich destinations from Athens to Rome on this 14-night itinerary. Before you embark on your fascinating journey, you’ll spend two nights exploring the best of Athens, and then on to your adventure through ancient cities, cultural seaside towns and historic medina’s.

Begin your Greco-Roman holiday on land in Athens, exploring everything that one of the world’s oldest cities has to offer. After your two-night stay, you’ll board the luxurious Oceania Allura in the morning and set sail to Mykonos, Greece. Here, you’ll lounge on Paradise Beach, browse the branded shops and discover its dense history in the archaeological museum showing artefacts from necropolis of Rhenia.

In Turkey, you can delve into the vibrant cultures and learn about the vast history of Istanbul, visit the ruins of ruins of Troy in Canakkale, and discover the history of Ephesus. Then sail back to Greece to soak in the warm rays of Rhodes while you explore its Acropolis, bustling streets and sweeping beaches. Your next Greek destination is Heraklion, Crete, famous for its palace of Knossos for you to explore.

After a day cruising through the ocean aboard the Oceania Allura and relaxing in its welcoming ambience, you’ll be well rested to explore Tunisia’s La Goulette. Barter with the shop owners of the busy souks, walk through its quaint, narrow streets and visit the Bardo Museum, famed for its ancient Roman mosaics.

Italy is your next destination, where you’ll admire the shining waters of Sicily and its historical buildings, gaze at the 11th and 12th century architecture and Moorish-style buildings of Positano and finally the dense past of Rome shown in its ruins, iconic monuments, and medieval Castel Gandolfo.

Itinerary

Land in Athens and take a private transfer to your two-night pre-cruise stay. During your exploration of one of the world’s oldest cities, you can delve into the bustling street markets, or indulge in the delicious cuisine in a vine-covered taverna. Enjoy the stunning scenery of the high-rise buildings, or discover the diverse landscapes of the towering, iconic Acropolis.
Transfer to Piraeus port to begin your voyage. After having experienced what Athens has to offer, board Oceania Allura to explore from Greece to Rome and much more in between.
Revel in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Mykonos, a sophisticated and fashionable favourite amongst travellers. Today, the Greek island is yours to discover. Enjoy a day of sightseeing at Mykonos’s iconic attractions from the archaeological museum showcasing the findings from the necropolis of Rhenia, or take a trip to the UNESCO site, Delos to find more ancient ruins. Pair your curious discoveries with a lounge on the famed Paradise Beach, or a browse through the designer shops.
Sail to your next destination, Istanbul where you’ll spend two days immersing yourself in its charming character and historic flare. As the known capital of the Roman Empire and its location on the water, the city is bursting with historical monuments and culture. Here at the heart of Turkey, explore the Byzantine ruins, ancient mosques and churches, and much more that is steeped in history. Or, delve into the modern cultures of the city with trendy bars and nightclubs, western boutiques and elegant suburbs.
Canakkale is the city nearest to the ancient city of Troy. Most famous for the wooden horse from the 2004 movie Troy, you can head to the seafront to get a better view. Known as the best site to see the ruins of Troy and the First World War cemeteries in Gallipoli, you’ll certainly have plenty to fill your day with in Canakkale. Plus, you can indulge in the delicious delicacies of Turkey including piruhi, tumbi and meze.
Walk through the ancient ruins of Ephesus, all well-preserved and awaiting your exploration. Marvel at the famed Library of Celsus, tour the towering amphitheatre and its marble roads all marked with chariot wheels of the past, and discover the sidewalks made of mosaics. Alternatively, you can enjoy the three monumental cities of antiquity, Priene, Miletus and Didyma, home to majestic temples and beautifully preserved stadiums.
Returning to the pristine islands of Greece, your next port of call is Rhodes. Whilst soaking in the delicious sun rays, you can enjoy a walking tour of the city to discover the best of what it has to offer. Enjoy the quaint, narrow streets of Lindos that lead you to the ancient Acropolis to explore its temples and stunning views from high up. Head back down and enjoy the sweeping sands and delicious restaurant options.
Next, explore Crete’s largest city and capital, Heraklion. Famed for its palace of Knossos, you can spend your day exploring its archaeological artefacts that date back to the Minoan civilisation thousands of years ago. You can also roam the mountain-fringed Lassithi plateau, brimming with orchards, windmills and ancient villages.
Spend that day at sea enjoying the amenities of Oceania Allura with sweeping views of the ocean that surround you. Spend your day however you want, from indulging in award-winning cuisine or afternoon tea, to joining cooking classes and wine tasting.
Tunisia
Meander through Tunisia’s historic medina, winding through its narrow alleys and haggling in the bustling souks. One true highlight of La Goulette is the Bardo Museum, home to spectacular Roman mosaics. After exploring the historical artifacts, walk through the white-washed village of Sidi Bou Saïd. It’s cliffside location offers sweeping sea views, and is ideally located nearby courtyards filled with flowers.
Sail to the shining waters of Italy’s Sicily and explore the history-rich city, brimming with ancient monuments and culture. Gaze at the towering Norman cathedral or visit the majestic 9th century Arab palace and its Palatine Chapel. Admire the opera house, or enjoy the history captured and showcased in the archaeological museum.
The Amalfi coast awaits you to stroll its streets framed by 11th and 12th century buildings from the Capuchin monastery to the cathedral and cloister. Spend your day admiring the chic Positano where you’ll be surrounded by views of Moorish-style houses hugging the mountain and fishing boats bobbing atop the shining waters of the picturesque bay.
Your final day brings your journey to an exceptional close with a day in The Eternal City. Rome, home to magnificent monuments of history and lush Roman countryside is waiting for you to explore. Marvel at the ancient Roman Forum and the Coliseum or admire the beauty in the architecture of St. Peter’s Basilica. See the other side of Rome and take a drive through sweeping farmlands and visit the medieval Castel Gandolfo.
