This fly drive takes you through the wide open spaces and sparsely populated territory of Yukon, situated in the upper Northwest corner of Canada. Visit historical gold rush towns and drive through jaw-dropping natural landscapes, look out for local wildlife such as caribou, wolves and grizzly bears.

This tour also takes in Haines and Tok in Alaska, as well as visiting Kluane National Park with its majestic mountain peaks, home of Mount Logan, Canada's highest peak and the world's largest non-polar ice fields. With one-quarter of Yukons population being of Aboriginal ancestry and First nations people, you will have numerous opportunities to learn of their culture, arts, crafts and cuisines.

Take time to explore historic Dawson City which is bursting with heritage sites and attractions such as Diamond Tooth Gertie's Casino with its legal gambling tables and 'Can-Can' floor shows. 

This self-drive holiday through Yukon rewards you with unique history, scenery, wildlife and experiences unlike anywhere else in Canada. For those with more time to spare this itinerary can be adapted to include the Dempster highway through the spectacular subarctic scenery of Tombstone Provincial Park  and cross the Arctic Circle. There are opportunities to extend your fly drive in to Alaska and visit Denali National Park, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Seward.

Whitehorse, Yukon
Today fly from the UK to Whitehorse where you will collect your rental vehicle on arrival and make your way to your hotel. Accommodation - Best Western Gold Rush Inn
Time to explore the region and the attractions of Whitehorse including the SS Klondike National Historic Site where the meticulously restored riverboat sits on the banks of the Yukon River. Visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve (included), here you will find 10 species of northern Canadian mammals, roaming in various natural habitats in this 700 acre rehabilitation centre and wildlife preserve. A bus tour will take you on a 5km loop around the preserve with opportunities to alight along the way to
Haines Junction, Yukon
Depart Whitehorse today for an an easy two hour drive along the historic Alaska Highway to Haines Junction. This town is the only thing not huge in Kluane country with a population of 800 residents, which is fewer than the number of grizzly bears in Kluane National Park. The park is home to Canada’s highest peak and the world’s largest non-polar Icefields that lie behind the façade of mountains that provide the town’s spectacular backdrop. For a truly unforgettable experience, take an air tour over the park. From above some of the planet’s largest glaciers, you’ll get a true sense of the scale and magnificence created by nature.
Kluane National Park in the Yukon is part of the largest contiguous area of protected wilderness on earth, and a United Nations World Heritage Site. Kluane National Park is home to Canada’s highest peak, Mount Logan in the Saint Elias Mountains and the world’s largest non-polar Icefields that lie behind the façade of mountains.
Tok, Yukon
This morning go on a short hiking trip before driving north along the shores of beautiful Kluane Lake. Stopover at Sheep Mountain and look out for Dall sheep gracing alongside the mountain slopes. Your journey continues on the famous Alaska Highway through endless wilderness areas. Arrive in Tok, often referred to as the “Dog Mushing Capital of Alaska”. Welcome back to Alaska.ain and look
The partly gravel 'Top of the World Highway' passes through some spectacular back country and gold mining areas such as the unique town of Chicken, one of the few surviving gold rush towns in Alaska. Chicken had a population of 7 at the 2010 census and the town now has a bar, gift shop, cafe and salmon bake. You will cross back in to Yukon, Canada at Little Gold and continue along the 'Top of The World Highway', until you reach West Dawson where you'll cross the Yukon River by the government-run
Dawson City, Yukon
A full day to visit the various historical sights of Dawson City: Visit the preserved historic SS Keno – the last paddle steamer to run the Yukon River from Whitehorse. The Grand Palace Theatre was built in 1899, this lavish theatre was home of the “ Gaslight Follies Show “, a must visit is Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Casino which offers legal gambling tables and “ Can-Can” floor shows.
Spend the day in this historic city, it's much like walking through an open museum. Do not miss the short drive on the Ridge Road to the top of the Midnight Dome with excellent views over Dawson, the Ogilvie Mountains, and the Yukon and Klondike Rivers. The Jack London museum is dedicated to the author of White Fang and takes you on a journey through his adventures before, during and after the Klondike Gold Rush.
Whitehorse, Yukon
Today is a long drive south, through raw beauty and spectacular landscapes. Stopover at the Five Finger Rapids and hike down to the shore of the Yukon River. In late afternoon you will return to Yukon’s capital city, Whitehorse - a city with a unique combination of pioneer values and urban sophistication. Drop your rental vehicle at Whitehorse Airport in time for your flight to the UK
