Hotel information
Sandwiched by the Placencia Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, this eco-resort was restored in 2001 after the original property was devastated by Hurricane Iris.
Architect Made Wijaya has designed the resort in a Balinese style, with rich wood carvings and colourful textiles throughout. Guestroom amenities include the innovative ‘Shellphone’ for communicating with reception, local organic toiletries and a complimentary breakfast of baked goods and fruits. Bathrooms are spacious and feature Japanese soaking tubs.
The resort is perfectly placed for marine activities; water sports enthusiasts can enjoy snorkelling, scuba diving, swimming and paddle-boarding on the largest barrier reef in the Caribbean. Land-based activities include yoga, discovering historic Maya ruins and local traditions at Nim Li Punit, or exploring the resort’s own scenic surrounds by bicycle. The resort offers a shuttle service into Placencia Village from 6 pm to 10 pm.
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to mealtimes. At The Mare Restaurant, sample authentic Italian fare, or stop by on a Monday or Thursday for Dutch-Indonesian Rijsstafel cuisine. Visit beachfront Gauguin Grill for fresh seafood, a selection of local cocktails and Coppola wines. Sample local dishes at Auntie Luba’s Kitchen, and enjoy a wide selection of drinks at either The Laughing Fish Bar, Skip White Bar or New Wine Cellar. Younger guests are also well-looked after here, with a ‘No Adults Allowed’ sign proudly displayed at the (supervised) Kids Gelato Bar.
