Hotel information
In the heart of the Dolomites, this family-run hotel offers a superb ski-in and shuttle out base beside the legendary Sallaronda Italian ski circuit.
With facilities for couples, families and groups, Col Alto is an excellent all-round base for a ski holiday in Italy, with the closest lifts only 400 metres away and world-class slopes on the hotel’s doorstep.
Run by the same family for more than 80 years, Hotel Col Alto has a strong tradition of hospitality with a personal touch, providing a warm, home-from-home experience.
Interiors are cosy, with fireplaces, wooden furnishings and soft lighting. While the exteriors mirror this alpine aesthetic, where two buildings offer five floors of expansive accommodation and facilities.
You’ll rest your head in one of the – recently renovated – rooms or suites, many with views over the Dolomites and all with use of the spa facilities included. Some suites have their own terrace with a Jacuzzi or a private sauna, and interconnecting rooms create additional space for families.
And speaking of the spa, the wellness area at Hotel Col Alto is a haven of relaxation and the perfect retreat after a day of skiing or hiking in the mountains with its indoor pool, whirlpool, Finnish sauna and Turkish bath.
The refined Italian restaurant uses local ingredients, including the hotel’s own olive oil brought in from Puglia, in traditional dishes. There is a large selection of wines, a salad buffet and a treat the whole family will love: a dessert buffet once a week. After dinner, head for cocktails at the trendy Iceberg Lounge Bar; a more sedate night-cap in the main bar; or cigars and rum in the sophisticated Cigar Lounge.
The experience for children is carefully considered too, with two playrooms featuring a rock wall, Lego area and table-top games, as well as recommendations for plenty of outdoor winter and summer activities in the vicinity. A kids’ club service – ages four plus – is available during school holidays.
Skiing in this region is suitable for all levels, with slopes and ski schools to appeal to beginners and experienced winter vacationers.

Restaurants & Bars
Italy is renowned for its exceptional and universally loved cuisine, and at Hotel Col Alto there is a passion for showcasing the country’s finest dishes using locally sourced ingredients.
Alongside the signature restaurant is a choice of three bars; each with its own distinct ambience to mix up your après-ski experience.
Restaurant Col Alto
From sea to mountains, the hotel’s restaurant celebrates Italian fare from Alpine traditional dishes to creative Mediterranean plates. Using local ingredients where possible, you’ll dine in an elegant yet cosy space that aims to take you on a “journey into the South Tyrolean culinary landscape”. Meals are accompanied by a salad buffet, and once every week there is a Ladin-themed dinner and a rich dessert buffet. Meals are complemented by a menu of local and national Italian wines.
Bar Col Alto
Pick from the extensive wine and spirit selection at this sophisticated bar with its cosy fireplaces and comfy chairs. This alpine retreat is a restful retreat for a post-ski hot chocolate or glass of Italian wine by the fire.
Iceberg Lounge Bar
This laidback spot serves up creative cocktails and champagne from a large counter made from Russian granite. With music and an exclusive atmosphere, it’s a lively spot for a late-night drink.
Cigar Lounge
This cosy lounge with its leather chairs and low tables is an old-school spot to recline with a premium cigar and fine rum or cognac. In this ambient space the hotel offers tastings, including the popular chocolate tasting experience.
Activities & Entertainment
Spa & Wellness
At the heart of the hotel is the large 1,000m² wellness area that’s home to many of the facilities included as part of every stay here.
The large indoor pool is great for warming up after a day on the slopes, with the gentle massage of the whirlpool’s bubbles brilliant to ease aching muscles. There is also the Kneipp Course; where hydrotherapy taps alternate hot and cold water to stimulate circulation and leave you feeling invigorated.
Additional facilities include a Finnish sauna, sea salt steam grotto, a classic Turkish bath, herbal bath, tepidarium and an ice fountain, which you can intersperse with chill-time in the relaxation zone.
Treatments available are from a menu of traditional massages and facials, with beauty therapies too; all using natural products where possible from La Natüra Beauty.
Winter activities
Most guests stay at Hotel Col Alto for its superb winter holiday position, giving ski-in-shuttle-out access to the Alta Badia and Dolomiti Superski domain, an extremely large area of slopes and facilities for all levels of skier and snowboarder.
The modern chairlifts are just a few hundred metres from the front door of the hotel, and access to heated lockers and a shuttle to the lifts are included for guests.
There’s plenty of fun to be had in the snow besides skiing and snowboarding too, with the hotel able to arrange snow shoeing, tobogganing, ice skating, Nordic walking and even winter hiking.
For kids there are snow parks, ski lessons and snow-covered meadows to play in, with Alta Badia renowned for its safe spaces for children to play in.
A great way to spend time as a family is with a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the village.
