Hotel information
Though Why House is situated only 30-minutes away from the bustling centre of Galle, it feels as though you could be a million miles away.
With stunning lush countryside extending in every direction and a blissful stretch of beach, just a short walk away, Why House feels like an oasis of calm – perfect for couples and families looking for a generous dose of escapism as well as excellent access to Galle.
Time spent at the resort is typically a relaxed affair. Ease back in a shady spot, enjoy Ayurvedic treatments in the massage pavilion, swim a few lengths in the lagoon-like swimming pool or take a moment of calm in the yoga shala – wherever you are, you can look forward to a serene and peaceful atmosphere and with only 10 rooms available, you’ll never have to share the space with many others.
Why House’s pleasingly intimate vibe extends to its food, which is lovingly prepared by cordon bleu-trained chef Henrietta and her team in the hotel’s single kitchen. The menu changes each day and is flexible to suit your needs. Fiery Asian noodles, authentic Sri Lankan rice dishes and curries or familiar international dishes are just some of the delights that may be on offer.
If you had something active in mind, Why House also offers a range of experiences to enhance your stay. If Henrietta’s cuisine has you feeling inspired, you can join her for a live cooking demonstration where she will show you how to prepare traditional Sri Lankan dishes such as hoppers. Occasionally, the hotel hosts cultural shows exhibiting traditional dancing, music and costumes.
There’s also plenty to explore nearby. Our Travel Specialists can arrange for you to go on tours of nearby Buddhist temples or tea and cinnamon plantations. The beach is also easily reachable by foot, bicycle or tuk tuk where you can enjoy the sun or a spot of snorkelling. Galle is also easily reachable for a day or afternoon trip. Or, if you would like to experience a romantic evening in the city without the children in tow, our Travel Specialists can arrange for one of Why House’s nannies to take care of your little ones for the evening.
