Hotel information
In times gone by Passikudah was a sleepy fishing village, separated from the outside world and enjoying traditional Sri Lankan way of life.
Named for the cries of “Maalu Maalu”, meaning fish fish, from the local fisherman and resembling a traditional fishing village thanks to its rustic timber buildings, Maalu Maalu is dedicated to maintaining its heritage and has become one of the most sought after hotels on this incredible stretch of Sri Lankan coastline.
The resort harnesses its surroundings to create a laid back, toes-in-the-sand atmosphere where guests can relax and unwind with the ocean lapping on the nearby shore. The velvet sands give way to a seemingly endless infinity pool that mirrors the shimmering ocean and is lined by beautiful wooden chalets that are designed to look like authentic fishing buildings, but contain all of the luxury features that discerning travellers expect. With Ocean and Panoramic Suites having their own plunge pool, and all of the chalets providing ocean views and pathways leading directly onto the soft sands, Maalu Maalu is the gold standard in relaxing beachside retreats.
With a prime position in the middle of the bay, Maalu Maalu is a resort completely at one with its history and surroundings. Because of this, maintaining the stunning environment is high up on their priority list and the resort employs a strict eco-friendly policy and has been built to the most stringent guidelines on energy and environment. The stunning natural beauty that these initiatives yield paves the way for some magnificent natural exploration. From wreck dives to kayaking, bike and walking trails to swimming and snorkelling, all of your adventurous needs will be taken care of – you may even find yourself exploring ancient cities, traditional bazaars and local fishing villages.
The remote feel makes Maalu Maalu ideal for an intimate honeymoon or vow renewal - you will feel like the only two people in the world as you watch the magnificent sunset and dine with the warm sand under your bare feet. The proximity to the azure ocean ensures that the freshest seafood is available from all three restaurants around the resort and in the nearby villages. With a gym, nightclub and spa you are never far removed from a reinvigorating experience. Ayur Vie, the authentic Ayurvedic spa offers an incredible selection of traditional treatments to suit your needs, each designed to provide a deep sense of wellness for your mind, body and soul. At Maalu Maalu you will find a place of calm and serenity.
