Cruising along the fabled Danube River aboard the S.S Maria Theresa, you’ll bear witness to centuries of artistic achievement and historical events through city-wide tours and experiences. Perfect for first-time cruisers and seasoned travellers, this well-composed itinerary provides an immersive tasting menu of four beguiling countries – Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany.

With locally based destination experts on hand to take you beyond the ‘must-sees’ of each region, you’ll experience a fresh take on classic sites and gain insider knowledge of underrated locales. Whether you want to bike around Danube Island in Vienna or hike up to a ruined castle in Dürnstein, you can tailor your journey exactly as you see fit, creating an enchanting river cruise to remember.

Itinerary

Fly from the UK to Budapest and embark the S.S Maria Theresa.
Discover the wonders of Budapest, an enchanting city with a vibrant mix of medieval and modern. You can either choose to visit the world-famous Franz Liszt Academy or enjoy a guided city walk, including a tram ride to the House of Parliament and a coffee break at the First Strudel House of Pest. In the evening, a special captain’s welcome reception and dinner will be prepared for you.
Set sail for Vienna early in the morning. During the journey, why not enjoy a tipple on the Sun Deck while taking in the spectacular scenery of the Danube Bend? Then, after arriving in Vienna, you’ll cap the rest of the day off with a private Mozart and Strauss concert held in a stunning Viennese palace.
Explore this cultural treasure trove with a highlights tour of the city before visiting Vienna Art History Museum for another tour, this time marvelling at the extraordinary collection of art on display. Following on from this, you’ll have some leisure time. Whether you want to visit the Albertina Museum or bike around Danube Island and Prater Park, there are plenty of activities to discover.
Wander through cobblestone lanes, browse quaint shops or hike up to a ruined castle in Dürnstein. Alternatively, there’s an optional wine tasting session in the enchanting Wachau Valley or a saffron workshop where you can learn all about the world’s costliest spice. Later, visit the 900-year-old Melk Abbey and its extraordinary baroque-style library before heading to Melk for your next port of call.
See the sights with a local expert and visit a family at their humble farm in the countryside. Linz boasts a long history of trading and textile manufacturing but is now best known for its electronic arts and annual festival. Nestled in a glorious alpine setting, it sparkles like a winter wonderland.
Get to know this picturesque city and its main claim to fame – Europe’s largest pipe organ. A crossroads in more ways than one, Passau is where three rivers meet, making for a fascinating cultural mosaic for you to explore. You can even go on an invigorating riverside hike to discover more. In the evening, a special captain’s farewell reception and dinner will be prepared for you.
Disembark the ship and transfer to Munich airport for your flight back to the UK.
