Hotel information
You are greeted by polished patchwork tiles, marble pillars, gilded antique artworks and a smartly dressed, attentive concierge team.
It is a fitting entrance for a hotel that exudes refinement from every pore.
Guests have a variety of fine dining options to choose from; with The Garden Room Restaurant offering expertly executed simplistic Irish cuisine, while Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, with its 2 Michelin stars, offers more formal gourmet dining. On-site bars include The Cellar Bar, set in the original 18th Century wine vaults, and the intimate No 23 cocktail bar. During the warmer months, guests can relax and dine al fresco out on the Garden Terrace, while the Drawing Rooms, with their open log fires, are perfect for afternoon tea all year round.
The Merrion is one of Ireland's best-located luxury hotels - just around the corner from Ireland’s National Museum of Archaeology and within sight of several other top Dublin attractions, museums and shopping outlets. This makes their period gardens (designed by landscape artist Jim Reynolds) even more remarkable, as rarely can you be so centrally situated while still enjoying beautiful garden views from your room.
Another unique attraction at The Merrion is their incredible art tour, narrated by Fionnuala Croke, who’ll walk you through their stunning collection of 19th and 20th-century art (one of Ireland’s largest private collections), as well as a history of the building itself.
Take your relaxation to new heights at The Merrion Spa and Healthclub - which uses both ESPA and Biologique Recherche products. Housing state-of-the-art fitness equipment, sauna and steam rooms, and an 18m infinity swimming pool, guests can maintain their health and fitness regime while staying at The Merrion. The focus on relaxation extends to a concierge service that will happily arrange a babysitter while you unwind in the spa.
The final layer of The Merrion’s multi-faceted appeal is, of course, the 142 available guestrooms and suites, each opting for a refreshingly straightforward – though still elegant – interior design. This works magnificently as plenty of light pours into these cream-hued spaces, and the slightly pared-back décor (compared with other more extravagant areas of the hotel) allows for the in-room extras and mod-cons not to feel out of place; perfection.
Room Options
The Merrion Hotel have opted for a slightly lower-key approach to the interior design of their guestrooms and suites, that is in relation to the bold features, chandeliers and priceless artworks found elsewhere around the hotel. That said, they are still among Dublin’s most luxurious hotel rooms thanks to high-end furnishings, excellent use of space and light, solid marble bathrooms and a healthy list of in-room extras. No matter which you choose, butler and turndown service, a separate bathtub and rain shower, air-con, a minibar, stereo system, robes and Asprey toiletries are just some of the standard inclusions. Then, the superior suites do add a little more with their improved views, bigger floorplans and lounge spaces too.
Queen Room
Found in The Merrion’s Garden Wing, these comfortable 330sq ft rooms enjoy all of the in-room extras and a plush marble bathroom, plus views over the city.King Room
Available in either the Garden Wing or Main House and at 366sq ft or 430sq ft respectively, the King Room is a great option for that extra space and pleasant garden views too.Junior Suite
The 585sq ft Junior Suite, found on the first floor of the Main House, provides ample space to spread out in if staying in Dublin for several days courtesy of a comfortable seating area, as part of that enhanced floorplan.Merrion Suite
Bigger still at 682sq ft and found in the Main House, Merrion Suites are a safe bet for anyone travelling to Dublin with children, though a fireplace also adds an element of romance if visiting as a couple.Garden Wing Suite
The Merrion’s 880sq ft city-view Garden Wing Suite is a beautiful space that’s able to comfortably sleep 2 adults and 4 children, if required.Penthouse Suite
Slightly smaller than its Garden Wing equivalent at 786sq ft, the Merrion’s Penthouse Suite is very much geared towards couples looking for one of the most exclusive hotel rooms in Dublin, with just one king-size bed – plus lounge areas, additional side rooms and extra amenities – within this stunning abode.Facilities/Amenities
The Merrion’s outdoor terraces, gardens and al fresco dining areas are all a unique feature for such a central Dublin hotel, as is their expansive Spa and Health Club with its beautiful indoor swimming pool surrounded by pillars, steam room, sauna and gym. You’ll also be very looked after by the hotel concierge if in need of any extra services, including babysitting or laundry.
Restaurants & Bars
Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud
A two-Michelin star Dublin restaurant (one of only a few in the UK) that The Merrion is quite rightly proud of; dining at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud will leave you nothing short of spellbound.
- Dinner
Bar No. 23
Bar No. 23 is The Merrion’s sophisticated cocktail, cognac and champagne bar, all soft lighting, antique artwork and leather-backed armchairs – highly recommended for a wind down before or after an evening meal out in Dublin.
The Garden Terrace
Another prized al fresco eatery at The Merrion that serves up lighter bites and good wine, for those sunny Dublin afternoons.
- Lunch
The Garden Room
This semi-outdoor dining space is a real treat when the weather is right, as tables spill out onto the patio and sit among Merrion’s central courtyard, though the contemporary-cool interior of the restaurant – and of course the gourmet European-inspired cuisine – is just as tempting.

The Cellar Bar at the Merrion
One of the most atmospheric and novel bars in Dublin, housed in an 18th century wine cellar of exposed brickwork and original archways, a long line of beer taps and plenty on the top shelf too, making it a hit with locals and guests alike.

Activities & Entertainment
Being situated in the heart of Dublin, you’re never going to be short of activities and entertainment while staying at The Merrion, night or day. Highlights of Dublin – which will either be within walking distance or a short transfer away – include the Guinness Storehouse; shopping on Grafton and Henry Street; the National Gallery and National Museum; Merrion Square; Dublin Castle; St Stephen’s Green; the Cathedrals of St Patrick’s and Christ Church, plus countless restaurants, bars and live music venues across the city.
