Grenada may not be as famous for its restaurant scene as some other Caribbean holiday destinations, but venture to the south-west and you’ll find a host of enticing options, from up-market fine-dining restaurants to independent homestyle eateries.
Picturesque ocean vistas and a plentiful supply of quality local produce are definitely the order of the day here.
Tipping in Grenada
Tipping is discretionary in Grenada and should take into account the level of service provided. Bear in mind that a service charge of 18% is normally added onto the bill in hotels and restaurants - otherwise, it’s recommended that you tip around 10% of the total bill.

BB's Crabback
This award-winning, authentic Caribbean restaurant is proudly owned and operated by Grenadian celebrity chef, Brian Benjamin.
Brian cites his grandmother as the most significant influence on the food he creates, so if you want to taste some truly traditional home-style fare, this place really ought to be on your dining wish list.
The menu celebrates Grenada’s exotic, tropical climate, which is vital to the creation of the island’s rich produce. So, you’ll find a varied selection of starchy vegetables (yams, sweet potato, cassava, plantains), fresh vegetables including callaloo, christophene and okra, not to mention exotic fruits like papayas, green mangoes, guavas and ugli fruit.
Aside from tasty homemade dishes, BB’s offers a relaxed and welcoming service coupled with fabulous views of the bay and harbour and a casual dress code. Don’t forget to sample the restaurant’s namesake - BB’s Crabback - available on the appetisers menu. Fresh crab meat, seasoned and baked with exotic herbs in a cheese and wine sauce, served in a crab shell - simply delicious. Before you leave, remember to add your name to the walls or ceiling!
Umbrellas Beach Bar
Thanks to its enviable location on the soft white sands of Grand Anse Beach, this inviting beach bar is the perfect place to enjoy an ice-cold drink, laid-back lunch or casual dinner. Delicious food and lively vibes make Umbrellas popular with locals, tourists and students at St George’s University, so it can get pretty busy.
Inside, you’ll find fresh and modern interiors. Much of the beachfront seating is shaded by trees and offers wonderful views of the sparkling ocean. For the best views in the house, ask for a table upstairs. Umbrellas offers fewer local food options than other places, but if you’re hankering for a burger, sandwich or salad then this is the place to go.
On weekends, enjoy an evening stroll along the beach before stopping here to enjoy live music and a refreshing drink.
Andy’s Soup House
This roadside diner might not look much from the outside, but never judge a book by its cover. As soon as you step inside, you’ll receive a warm welcome and friendly, efficient service. Andy’s serves up reasonably priced, generous portions of real Grenadian food - so it’s easy to see why this place is so popular with the locals.
Andy’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner but to ensure the best choice you should visit by lunchtime - there’s a locally sourced special on offer every day. Be sure to try the beef roti and Grenada’s national dish, oil down (a flavoursome one-pot stew that’s made with ingredients like callaloo, breadfruit, chicken, pimento peppers, coconut milk and turmeric). If you still have room for dessert, try the locally produced nutmeg ice cream.
To get here, it’s possible to walk up the hill from Grand Anse if you want to work up an appetite. Alternatively, Andy’s is served by the local bus service or there is easy on-street parking outside.
The Beach Club and Rhodes Restaurant at Calabash
You’ll find both of these restaurants at the luxurious Calabash hotel. Both are open to non-residents, although Beach Club sun loungers are reserved for the use of Calabash hotel guests only. The Beach Club operates an ‘elegantly casual’ dress code - so no wet swimwear or sleeveless shirts for men and cover-ups must be worn over bathing attire.
Nestled on the snowy white sands of L’anse Aux Epines Beach, the Beach Club is a fantastic place for a high-end, leisurely lunch - and the location makes it the perfect spot for people-watching too. The menu pays homage to the natural produce and spices of Grenada. Order Caribbean tapas dishes or a grazing plate if you can’t decide what to have. As you’d expect, prices are a little higher here, but they are reasonable when you take into account the attentive service, imaginative food offering, stunning views and pleasant ambience.
Menu Tip
The lionfish dish on the small plates menu is wonderful, as are the lobster tacos - and the chicken roti is big enough for two to share. Don’t forget to save room for the banana crumble dessert.
Previously owned and operated by the late Gary Rhodes, Rhodes Restaurant offers fine-dining, faultless service and refined ambience. The restaurant has an elegant dress code and is open daily for dinner between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm. Guests are invited to enjoy drinks before or after their meal in the delightful Piano Lounge. Rhodes Restaurant is a top choice for local people celebrating a special occasion, which speaks volumes as to the quality of the dining experience here.
The setting is romantic and magical with harbour views from the exquisitely decorated patio and gentle entertainment from local musicians. The menu is varied and imaginative with lobster and daily changing seafood specials.
Patrick’s Local Homestyle Cooking Restaurant
Originally opened by Patrick Levine around 30 years ago, Grenada’s original tapas restaurant was taken over by Patrick’s childhood friend in 2010.
Housed in a grey and white wooden building, the restaurant’s humble exterior represents a traditional Grenadian home. Just over the road from Port Louis Marina, it’s easy to find and there’s on-street parking and a free parking lot nearby. You can also take bus route #1 which stops directly outside.
Patrick’s is proud of its no bells and whistles approach - between 15 and 20 local, homestyle specialities of Grenada are served up, including oil down, lambie (conch), stuffed peppers, crayfish and curried mutton.
An extensive vegan menu is also offered, which includes the fruity ‘nice’ cream. With live music entertainment on selected nights, Patrick’s offers a traditional island dining experience and attentive service.
Aquarium
Situated directly on Magazine Beach, this stylish-yet-relaxed independent restaurant boasts some of the best ocean views on the island.
Elegantly casual, you’ll see a mix of people basking in the cooling ocean breeze here - from local business workers to families in their beachwear. By day, Aquarium’s La Sirena beach bar is the ideal place to sip a cooling cocktail or ice-cold rum punch under the shade of the palm trees.
Sun loungers, snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available for hire too, meaning many choose to make a day of their visit to Aquarium. By night, the airy dining room decorated with seawater aquariums offers a romantic setting to enjoy a special meal with your loved one.
The menu includes a selection of beautifully presented meat and fish dishes - seafood lovers will definitely want to try the Aquarium Medley which includes lobster, jumbo shrimp, scallops and fish. End the evening with tropical cocktails under the stars at the beach bar. On Sunday’s the venue hosts a weekly beach BBQ with music from the resident DJ and local bands.
Gouyave Fish Fry
Seafood lovers rejoice - OK, so the Fish Fry isn’t actually a restaurant, but it’s definitely an unmissable event for any foodie visiting Grenada. It takes place every Friday evening in the island’s fishing (and party!) capital, the buzzing coastal town of Gouyave.
You’ll find it in the centre of town on St Francis and St Dominic Street, just behind the gas station. Head to this lively open-air party from 6:00 pm onwards to mingle with the locals, listen to the steel bands and enjoy grilled and fried fresh fish straight from the boat.
Shrimp, fish cakes, jerked marlin, huge lobsters, snapper and conch accompanied by mouth-watering traditional side dishes. The official end time is 11:00 pm, but the festivities usually continue for much longer in Gouyave.
Nutmeg Bar and Restaurant
This laid-back local establishment boasts fantastic views of the colourful Carenage and harbour - request a seat by the window to enjoy the best views and a cooling breeze. The seating area is accessed by steep steps and there is no lift - if this is an issue, there is a downstairs takeaway counter.
Simply order your food to enjoy by the harbour instead. The menu offers exotic Grenadian food alongside classic international favourites like burgers and club sandwiches. The food is reasonably priced and cooked to order - the rotis are generous and especially tasty. Simple furnishings, friendly service and fantastic views make this a lovely place to stop for lunch or dinner after a busy few hours exploring St George’s.
Spice Affair by Red Crab
Diners at Indian-fusion restaurant Spice Affair delight in tasting traditional Indian dishes made with locally sourced spices, or modern interpretations of Grenadian dishes made using rich, authentic Indian spices.
Choose from outdoor and indoor seating - many guests are pleased to find a restaurant on the island with walls, a roof and air conditioning! The service is welcoming and attentive to all guests including couples, groups of friends and families.
Be sure to try the butter chicken and naan bread, followed by the Mango Mango dessert.
