Snorkelling in Barbados: your experience

What you need to bring

Packing a few essential items in a waterproof bag will help to ensure you're fully prepared for your snorkelling adventure. 

• Swimwear: Pack swimming attire with comfortable and breathable material so you can easily navigate the water. To avoid sunburn, a rash guard or t-shirt over the top of swimwear is highly recommended, as are reef shoes to avoid any nasty coral scrapes.
• Towel: Bring a towel to dry off after snorkelling or to lay on the beach to enjoy the tropical climate. Consider a quick-drying and compact towel which will conveniently fit into your beach bag.
• Suncream: Protect delicate skin from the sun's rays with a high SPF rating. Help protect the oceans  by opting for a reef-safe sunscreen, designed to minimise any negative impact on the marine environment.

When’s a good time to snorkel?

Barbados offers excellent snorkelling throughout the year. The dry season between December and May sees generally calm sea conditions, which in turn means excellent water visibility. During these months you'll have a good chance of encountering sea turtles, beautiful fish, and other marine species in the blue waters. June to November has a higher chance of rainfall, so visibility may be slightly reduced, however showers don't last long and the water remains warm.

Visit in August or September to witness a mass coral spawning which increases activity around the reefs. If you're dreaming of swimming with sea turtles, you'll have a higher chance of spotting them during nesting season between May and October.
