Join this incredible full-day hike along the world-renowned Routeburn Track for spectacular views over Mount Aspiring National Park and all its wonderful flora and fauna.
To begin your adventure, you’ll be driven from your accommodation to the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy, and up to Dart Valley, soaking in the surroundings of glistening lakes and towering mountains. The hike begins once you reach the Routeburn Shelter, which marks the beginning of a rural wonderland. Wander through native beech forest, passing inhabitants such as the yellowhead mohua, yellow-crowned parakeet, rifleman and the South Island robin. You'll also explore the ancient paths of the Maori travellers, tracing history as you move along their old 'Greenstone' trails.
Around a couple of hours down the track, the trails open up onto the grassy flats of Routeburn Flats Hut. It’s the perfect place to stop for a Kiwi-style lunch, with stunning views of the Harris Saddle cloud-scraping mountains, so high they're capped by permafrost. Your expert guide will provide opportunities for photos and pitstops for snacks and drinks throughout the hike, as well as providing a fascinating commentary on all the striking scenery.
