Full accommodation information

For a boutique Wanaka escape that has just five contemporary guestrooms – including three standalone villas with yes, outdoor tin bathtubs – there’s a surprising level of facilities available at Tin Tub Luxury Lodge. From the onsite tennis court and small gym to a large outdoor pool with accompanying sun patio, gardens and Lake Wanaka views, they certainly squeeze a lot in here. You’ll also find a tranquil communal lounge complete with stone fireplace, a library and pleasant al fresco dining terrace where breakfast can be served, though it especially comes into its own at night, when the outdoor fire is roaring and a glass of fine local wine has been poured, of course.

The same goes for that clutch of exclusive guestrooms at Tin Tub Luxury Lodge, which are also wonderfully well-equipped with their spa baths or rain shower and outdoor tub, king-size beds, furnished terraces and yet more irresistible Lake Wanaka views; a major highlight of any stay. However, on top of all this, it is the personal service and intimate atmosphere that helps make Tin Tub Luxury Lodge stand out among the best Lake Wanaka properties, with the owners still cooking and serving breakfast themselves, mingling with guests and helping arrange excursions too, whether hiring one of the complimentary mountain bikes, booking a vineyard tour, scenic hike, helicopter ride or skydive – this is one of New Zealand’s adventure capitals, after all.

There are five guestrooms at Tin Tub Luxury Lodge, split into two room types, with the Peak View option being found within the main building itself and Lodge Rooms enjoying a little extra space and privacy, housed in standalone villas that look out towards Lake Wanaka. All come with a king-size bed and seating area, furnished courtyard or terrace and either a rain shower, spa bath or outdoor tub, depending on which room you choose. And although every Tin Tub Luxury Lodge room is suitably airy, thanks to their French windows, it is worth noting – if visiting in summer – that the Peak View Rooms do not have air-conditioning.

Peak View Room

Peak View Rooms at Tin Tub Luxury Lodge are modestly decorated, though still very light and airy thanks to French windows which lead out to a private terrace. They also come with a rain shower, king-size bed and seating area.

Lodge Rooms offer something slightly different and are decidedly more modern in their décor, larger too and coming with a comfortable lounge area, spa bathtub and sizeable lake-view terrace.

Although small, Tin Tub Luxury Lodge is surprisingly well-equipped with its tennis court, mountain-view swimming pool, lounge and library, a modest gym and sauna too. Everything else you need for your time in Wanaka can then be arranged by the hotel owners, who also provide mountain bikes and can help with skiing equipment if visiting in winter.

Tin Tub Luxury Lodge overlooks Lake Wanaka and its surrounds, so boat trips and nature hikes are a must while here. The area is also known for outdoor activities and extreme sports as well as plenty of sightseeing and winery tours. Mount Aspiring National Park is nearby and Queenstown can be reached within an hour, while biking, hiking, rock climbing and golf can all be enjoyed within touching distance of the lodge itself.
