Idyllically remote Cabot Lodge, on the fringes of Fiordland National Park, is worth visiting for the elevated Lake Manapouri views alone, though elegant and sophisticated suites plus hearty homecooked fare sourced straight from the farm itself certainly help!

Hotel information
The beauty of Cabot Lodge is that, in addition to the unbeatable setting, luxe guestrooms, and gourmet homecooked cuisine, you also get the kind of authentic Kiwi experience that just can’t be taught.
This is largely thanks to the multi-generation, family-owned farm in which the lodge sits, within no less than 2,000 acres of private land and 4,000 head of sheep on your doorstep, as is nearby Lake Manapouri and wider natural wonders of New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park.
Another highlight of staying at Cabot Lodge is the dining experience here, with a changeable (and seasonal) gourmet menu running throughout the day, from just-collected eggs and homemade bread in the morning to locally reared produce and fine New Zealand wine at night, everything has either been grown onsite or sourced within touching distance of Cabot’s open-plan kitchen.
The outdoor spaces are also just as much of a draw, whether exploring the farmland with your hosts or simply admiring the epic lake and mountain views on the terrace, a real sense of place is always apparent.
Yet during your time at Cabot Lodge you’re also staying in a highly exclusive and beautifully adorned Fiordland property, with only four spacious and elegant suites, rustic-chic communal spaces such as the living room complete with fireplace and a library of books, plus plenty of modernity too such as the glass-clad bathrooms, walk-in rain showers and so on.
This tantalising combination of real Kiwi rural life, outright farmhouse comforts, complete isolation, family hosts and top New Zealand cuisine is what makes Manapouri’s Cabot Lodge so special.
Room Options
The four suites available at Cabot Lodge are all relatively similar in terms of their upmarket interior design of both rustic elements and contemporary touches alike, all natural wood, lots of light and locally-inspired artworks throughout. Bathrooms are also modern with a walk-in rain shower for every room and a separate standalone bathtub for some, plus outdoor space, super-king-size beds, comfortable lounge areas and a fireplace in two of the four rooms. The Two-bedroom Suite is a great option for families while the Premier has its own kitchenette, though each is equally well-equipped and enjoys wonderous lake views too.
Premier Suite
Take in the countryside views from the comfort of your deep-soak bathtub in the Premier Suite, which also comes with a kitchenette, lounge space and oversized windows that open out towards the lake.Deluxe Suite
The Deluxe Suite also enjoys a standalone tub and walk-in rain shower, plus an extra romantic edge thanks to a stone fireplace and lovely lake views.Deluxe Courtyard Suite
If you're looking for a little more space, separate living room and private furnished terrace, the Deluxe Courtyard Suite is your best bet.Two-bedroom Suite
Cabot Lodge’s Two-bedroom Suite offers a jump up in terms of size, with enough space for four people, plus its lake views, large bathroom and internal seating area too.Facilities/Amenities
Cabot Lodge is an unashamedly straightforward place, focusing more on the great outdoors and this stunning location, rather than five-star facilities onsite. The grounds speak for themselves, though a comfortable lounge area is full of books and games, a piano and fireplace, while your hosts will be more than happy to arrange anything extra on top.
Activities & Entertainment
Being situated on the fringes of Fiordland National Park, you could not be better placed to explore the best of nearby Lake Manapouri and its surrounds – in addition to the farm activities and tours provided by your hosts. Hiking through the forests or taking a helicopter ride over Fiordland National Park are both unmissable experiences, as well as kayaking the fiords of Milford and Doubtful Sounds or seeking out a hidden waterfall along endless walking trails that surround the estate.
