Hotel information
Occupying a privileged position on the northern banks of North Island’s Lake Taupo, Kinloch Manor & Villas delivers striking views of this lush landscape from its stylish property, with the promise of adventure ever-lingering in the air.
Golfers need look no further when deciding on where to stay in New Zealand, as this lodge is part of the Kinloch Club: it’s an award-winning golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, often compared to Scottish links courses though with a decidedly New Zealand edge. The beauty of Kinloch Club is that you can play all day long against the captivating backdrop of Lake Taupo and rolling hills, in the company of a PGA professional if you prefer, before retiring back to the lodge for fine dining and a bit of pampering too.
The hotel itself has been designed with its Scottish counterpart in mind, Kinloch Castle, so guests can expect a façade of stone and interiors showcasing hints of tartan, oak flooring and leathers. That being said, Kinloch Lodge is thoroughly modern thanks to its contemporary takes on traditional elements: think stylish lighting incorporating copper and brass, velvet armchairs and reclaimed wood throughout the shared spaces. Views of Lake Taupo are then maximised wherever possible, particularly delightful to wake up to from your king-size bed.
Following a day golfing, hiking, biking or playing tennis (among many other activities), why not opt for a manuka honey body scrub, hydrating facial or hot stone massage at the spa? Later on, slide into the Kinloch bar for pre-dinner drinks and canapes, before settling down for a delicious New Zealand meal paired with local wines. Cuisine is always taken seriously here, so rest assured you will be treated to only the very best seasonal produce and flavour combos; another string to the Lodge at Kinloch’s bow.
Room Options
The 20 suites and villas at Kinloch Manor have been thoughtfully designed by Virginia Fisher, who brings a touch of Scotland to the spaces which are equal parts elegant and homely. Adorned in oak, tactile fabrics and a palette of stone and mint green, these capacious abodes are easy on the eye and supremely comfortable, bedecked in king-size or twin beds, floor-to-ceiling glass doors, deep-soak tubs and his-and-hers sinks. They also come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning and stocked minibars with complimentary treats.
Junior Suite
Sleeps: 2 Adults
The Junior Suite is clad in floor-to ceiling windows that look over the golf course, hip lighting and soft, homely textures. Twin vanities, a standalone bathtub and walk-in rain shower are found in the bathroom, along with Matakana Botanicals; while the bedroom features a minibar, coffee machine and iPod docking station. One Bedroom Villa
This villa is stylish and comfortable, equipped not only with a sleek bathroom and bedroom overlooking the golf course, but also a kitchen, private deck and courtyard, fireplace and laundry facilities. Two Bedroom Villa
Just like the previous room category, though with an additional bedroom, bathroom and terrace; ideal for large groups and families.Facilities/Amenities
The most outstanding of facilities at Kinloch Manor is the championship, par-72 golf course, Kinloch Club, revered by golfing professionals for its exceptional Jack Nicklaus design and breathtaking natural background, comprising rolling fields, forests and even Lake Taupo. There’s also a tennis court at the lodge, and bikes available to borrow. The spa is then well-placed to soothe aching muscles, particularly with their designated ‘Birdie’ treatment, or simply to lull guests into a state of pure zen.
Restaurants & Bars
The Dining Room
Dining is one of the top highlights of a stay at The Lodge at Kinloch, with meals being presented as a multi-course feast laden with the freshest seasonal produce, sourced from the grounds of the hotel (and sister property) itself. Expect to be enthralled by the comforting flavours plated up here, whether that’s venison loins with mushrooms, duck confit with garden beets and apple relish, or blackberry parfait with hibiscus granita. Breakfast is also a delight: aromatic coffee, fruit and homemade muesli among some of the reasons to jump out of bed in the morning.

Activities & Entertainment
The number one activity at the lodge is the fantastic golf course, Kinloch Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus and regularly voted among the top courses in Australasia. Not only can you enjoy a game with the stunning New Zealand scenery as your backdrop, but also learn insider tips from PGA professionals to perfect your skills. Aside from golf, visitors can have a go at fly-fishing, and afterwards ask the chef to transform your catch into a delectable meal, or tackle the famed Tongariro Alpine Crossing – just one of the many hikes available in the region. If you crave adventure, opt for the full-day program that incorporates four adrenalin-pumping activities: skydiving, bungy jumping, a scenic flight and jet boat ride, cramming as many thrills into one day as possible! If all that weren’t enough, at Kinloch Lodge you can go biking, foraging, visit geothermal gems (including mud pools and hot springs), play tennis and take part in traditional Maori rituals. Guests can also maximise the activity menu at sister property Treetops Lodge & Estate, where 2,500 acres of land is yours to explore, just be sure to book enough time here.
