Full accommodation information

When visiting the cosmopolitan city of Auckland, a trip to Waiheke Island – and The Boatshed – is a must.

A quick 35-minute ferry journey from the city centre will take you across the Hauraki Gulf to this little slice of paradise characterised by its simple beach houses, often shared with several generations. The Boatshed takes inspiration from these charming properties and adds a signature style of opulent, avant-garde design and quirky Kiwi accessories.

Waiheke has always been popular with both Auckland’s nautical folk and the creative community, reflected in the clever décor at The Boatshed. In keeping with much of the architecture in this area, the building itself is clad in wood, with as many windows as possible to make the most of the stunning views of Oneroa Beach in the foreground and the crystal-clear waters that sprawl into the distance.

Like the rest of the island, the atmosphere at The Boatshed is completely relaxed. Here, you will become accustomed to working on ‘Kiwi time’ and adapt to the much slower pace of life with ease. A warm, informal welcome and glass of wine greet you upon ‘check-in’ to start your stay as you mean to go on, as this family-run hotel really knows how to make their guests feel instantly at home. Take leisurely strolls along the iridescent sands of the beach or head into the bush for a hike (or ‘tramp’ as the locals call it!). With smart 4x4 drives available for hire, you can request a picnic and take off for the day, leaving no part of the island unexplored.

Guestrooms at The Boatshed are rich and varied, full of classic Kiwi character yet also flawless, contemporary spaces. You will find all the modern conveniences here that you would expect from a five-star hotel, such as air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and Wi-Fi, though also thoughtful extras including Bose speakers, a fireplace, a minibar stocked with complimentary soft drinks, a beach kit ready to go with sun hats, sand mats and the all-important sunscreen, plus evening treats and a glass of port.

The Owners Cottage also has internal access to The Water Tower, perfect for groups travelling together.

Nothing is too much trouble for the helpful staff at The Boatshed, who will pack lunches for you, advise you on little-known beauty spots and rustle up snacks if you are peckish. A small spa facility will only go to add to your ever-growing sense of calm, while cars to hire on a daily basis allow you to visit nearby points of interest.

The Boatshed Restaurant

The Boatshed Restaurant

The restaurant at The Boatshed may have a casual air about it but that in no way means the quality of food is compromised. Starting with the delicious breakfast that features different elements each morning, your gastronomic adventure gets better and better as the day goes on. With many of the ingredients sourced locally, including from The Boatshed’s very own garden, fresh seafood, first-class New Zealand cuts of meat and tempting platters of olives, bread and scrumptious cheeses will delight. Better still, you are free to enjoy your meal wherever takes your fancy, be it in the gorgeous gardens, the communal dining room, or anywhere in-between.
