Hotel information
The atmosphere around Vahine Island Resort is intentionally easy-going and natural, placing emphasis on the postcard-perfect location of this private South Pacific escape, its cerulean seas and first-class, locally sourced cuisine instead.
The result is a thoroughly inviting island retreat in French Polynesia, one which offers a modest spa and massage treatments, tropical island fruits for breakfast and freshly caught seafood as the sun begins to set, plus a surprising amount of activities and watersports available too.
A great way to enjoy those warm seas surrounding Vahine Island and nearby Taha’a – as well as the wider archipelago – while staying at the resort is indeed to borrow a snorkel, kayak, jet-ski or outrigger canoe and take to the water. Private boat tours, on-land safaris, traditional dance classes, beach games, vanilla plantation and rum distillery tours are then also available.
Yet the main reason to book a private island escape in the South Pacific is often relaxation, and Vahine doesn’t disappoint there either as its laidback ‘shoes-off’ approach encourages little more than the perfect excuse to unwind. This stretches from the style of décor – all thatch and exposed wood, clean white drapes and a hammock on your terrace – to the semi-wild grounds, untouched sandy bays and overall ambience of taking just about everything at a slightly slower pace.
Room Options
The beachfront and overwater cabins at Vahine Island Resort & Spa are all bedecked in the same rustic-chic mix of exposed wood (some of which is reclaimed or driftwood), cushion-topped bamboo furnishings, a net hammock overlooking the ocean and one or two French Polynesia-inspired ornaments peppering the room. Each also comes with a king-size bed and en suite bathroom with shower, Wi-Fi, a private furnished terrace, minibar and air-conditioning, while the Beach Suite option is significantly larger at twice the size of its Bungalow equivalent and the three overwater casitas roughly in the middle of the two, in terms of overall size.
Beach Bungalow
A charming 538sq ft space which looks out towards the ocean, coming with all the standard in-room Vahine extras and plenty of privacy too.Beach Suite
Beach Suites offer twice the floorplan as the bungalow option at 1,237sq ft, allowing room for a larger private terrace, lounge area and twin vanity en suite bathroom.Overwater Bungalow
The 753sq ft Overwater Bungalow is a spacious and beautifully placed option at Vahine Island Resort, separated from the beach via a wooden walkway and coming with an inviting stairway straight down to the water.Facilities/Amenities
Vahine Island Resort aims for pared back luxury here in the South Pacific. As such, there is an intentional limit on the level of five-star facilities found onsite, as the heavenly private island itself and surrounding activities already speak for themselves. What you will find is a lovely thatched spa area with a hot tub, relaxation rituals and massage available, everything you need for all kinds of watersports and a concierge to help with anything else.
Restaurants & Bars
Vahine Restaurant and Bar
The Vahine Restaurant and Bar serve up a set menu of truly delectable treats from morning till night each day, in their magical, semi-al fresco setting overlooking the water. Vahine’s head chef hails from France, so you can expect a distinctly European flavour to the fine-dining cuisine on offer here, though everything from the fresh seafood specialities to tropical morning fruits are locally sourced, of course.

Activities & Entertainment
There’s a host of watersports, activities and day trips available from Vahine Island Resort, most of which are included in your stay such as sea kayaking, windsurf and stand-up paddle boards, snorkelling equipment, beach games, volleyball and a golf club too. You can then arrange nature tours and traditional dance classes, visit a vanilla plantation or rum distillery nearby, go jet-skiing, book a boat and 4x4 safari or embark on a full exploration of Taha’a and the surrounding islands.
