The interior design of MACq 01 is certainly contemporary, despite the nostalgic theme that runs throughout the building, and it all works wonderfully well. The lounge, in particular, really encapsulates what this boutique Hobart waterfront hotel is all about with its grand fireplace in the centre of the room, encouraging people to gather around it and share in the art of storytelling themselves. On top of its unbeatable interiors and uber-urban design then, MACq 01 also offers valet parking and butler service, a small but modern gym, and stunning Hobart waterfront views from its five-star restaurant and swanky lounge bar – a perfect combination.

Room Options

Guestrooms at MACq 01 are chic, modern and super cool in design, packing a real punch in terms of style in what can be considered some of Hobart’s trendiest hotel rooms. The colour palette on the walls is kept light allowing bold art work and statement pieces of furniture to do the work for them. Décor varies from room to room even within the same room category, but expect anything from rich blues, warm golds and splashes of primary colours depending on the identity of your room. Bathrooms are uncluttered refined spaces with a good-size shower and, in some cases, a deep-soak tub. All rooms feature mod-cons including wireless speakers, flat-screen TVs and tablets. Hunter Street Room

Generously spacious for an entry level room, these rooms range from 43-47sq m in size. Large windows give optimum views of Hunter Street as does your private balcony. The room is furnished with a king-size bed, a desk and seating arrangement, while the bathroom has a walk-in shower.

Superior Hunter Street Room

As the name suggests these 50-51sq m rooms overlook the bustling sights of Hunter Street. They benefit from a private balcony, king-size bed and a comfortable seating area from which to watch the world go by below.

Waterfront Room

Wake up to Hobart’s waterfront in this 45-46sq m guestroom. The bedroom itself houses a king-size bed, seating area, walk-in wardrobe and desk; in the bathroom you will find a separate shower and bath tub.

Superior Waterfront Room

Boasting superb views of the harbour, that can be enjoyed through large floor-to-ceiling windows and also from your private balcony, the Superior Waterfront Room has a deep-soak bath tub and separate walk-in shower along with a good-size seating area and king-size bed.

Superior Corner Suite

Dual-aspect vistas of the waterfront and a decadent bath tub, along with 77-80sq m of floor space, make the Superior Corner Suite an excellent choice.

Executive Corner Suite

Benefitting from the sights of Hunter Street and partial water views, you can enjoy the best of both worlds in the Executive Corner Suite. Huge windows allow the natural light to pour in across these large suites which, in some cases, can be up to 101sq m in size. These suites also have a fireplace separating the lounge from the sleeping area.

Premium Waterfront Suite

The Premium Waterfront Suite has elevated views across the waterfront that can be soaked up from a large artificial-turf-covered balcony or from your king-size bed through the huge window that dominates the room.

Executive Waterfront Suite

Presenting guests with some of the most enviable views in Hobart, this corner suite has floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony to maximise your experience. A deep bath tub in which to soak can be found in the large bathroom, while in the bedroom itself, a clearly defined living area is the perfect place to marvel at this stunning capital city.

Luxury Waterfront Suite

For the ultimate experience at MACq 01 opt for the Luxury Waterfront Suite. Covering a mammoth 105sq m this suite offers exceptional views across the harbour from multiple angles including from the private balcony. A fireplace separates the bedroom and lounge area while a deep tub made from stone beckons in the bathroom.

By far, one of the highlights of staying at the MACq 01 has to be the guided walking tours of the hotel, city and harbour. Your guide, or ‘storyteller’ as they are known, will regale you with their extensive knowledge of the island going back hundreds of years right through to the present day. Thanks to its central location, it is also easy to reach some of Hobart’s other attractions including the Maritime Museum and the pretty Franklin Square.
