Full accommodation information

South Australia’s first ever private luxury eco retreat, Rumi on Louth is a small property exclusively situated on remote Louth Island off the coast of Eyre Peninsula. Set across 334 acres of pristine wilderness, just ten-minutes from the mainland, it’s in a perfect position for you to both disconnect and explore local culture. As you arrive, you’re greeted with a refreshing mimosa and a warm smile.

Brought to life by Melbourne-based tech entrepreneur Che Metcalfe, Rumi was designed from the ground up to reflect its natural surroundings while also providing a unique sense of luxuriousness. The idea is to regenerate the land, looking after the environment around it for years to come.

Currently, there are only three accommodation options, each featuring panoramic sea views and high-end finishes throughout. Stage Two of the development comes later in 2025, when the villas – which will be built out over the next couple of years – start to provide an ultra-special experience.

Gourmet dining adds an extra layer of splendour to your stay. Award-winning Executive Chef Jono Sweet has a deep passion for native ingredients. Born and raised in Eyre Peninsula, Jono is always inspired by his environment, specialising in modern Australian cuisine with an Asian fusion twist.

To top it all off, the range of adventurous and relaxing experiences on the island and in the wider Eyre Peninsula area help immerse you in a world of wild indulgence. The peninsula is one of the least visited areas by travellers, yet is easily accessible from Adelaide. Whether it’s hiking the magical coastline at Port Lincoln or enjoying a catamaran on the waters, you’re truly spoilt for choice.

Imagine staying on an enchanting island with nothing but nature for miles around. The understated elegance of Rumi on Louth’s luxury rooms and suites provides just that and more for your South Australian getaway. Along with an array of fabulous amenities, you’re treated to the utmost comfort, not to mention the daily breakfast as well as airport transfers that are included with every stay.

Louth Island is a thrill-seeker’s paradise while also the home of some of Australia’s most tranquil and immersive experiences. For one, you’re able to ride off the beaten path on an exhilarating buggy tour to an array of hidden gems, taking in and snapping pictures of the enamouring scenery as you go. Alternatively, why not embark on a relaxing catamaran cruise? From the comfort of your vessel, you get a stunning backdrop of the rugged coastline while indulging in a gourmet charcuterie board.

By speaking with our Travel Specialists, we can help tailor-make every experience you wish to enjoy.

Che Metcalfe initially bought Louth Island with the vision of retiring and turning it into a private island for himself, friends and family. But after spending more and more time there, he discovered just how special it really is. Now, his aims of developing South Australia’s first ever private luxury eco retreat are coming to fruition. Today, it’s an environmentally conscious, unique tourism offering.

The project has been meticulously planned to care for and regenerate the environment of the island. Completely powered by Australian-made renewables, the eco retreat provides you with luxury without you realising the complexity of the sophisticated technology that goes into its operation.

Another sustainable initiative can be seen through the native ingredients Executive Chef Jono Sweet uses in his dishes, foraged on the island – including the likes of samphire, ruby saltbush and ice plant.
