Full accommodation information

A UNESCO World Heritage-listed National Park and the world’s largest sand island, K'gari (formerly Fraser Island) is a unique wilderness of sub-tropical rainforests, freshwater lakes, eucalyptus covered sand dunes and home to a diverse range of birds, reptiles and the occasional sighting of dingoes.

K'gari is located off Queensland Fraser Coast, a four-hour drive from Brisbane to Hervey Bay where you take a 50-minute ferry crossing from River Heads to Kingfisher Bay Resort.

The rooms are connected to the main resort amenities by wooden walkways that meander through the native surrounds. Each room offers a private deck or balcony with views overlooking the bush, Wallum-Lagoon or waters of Great Sandy Strait.

The menus at Kingfisher Bay’s restaurants have been inspired by the Butchulla people, the island’s traditional owners, with dishes including ingredients such as home grown herbs and garnishes and locally caught seafood reflecting Australian bush tucker and island living. Choose from dining al fresco in a natural bush setting at Kingfisher Bay Resort’s signature Seabelle Restaurant, overlooking the main resort pool at Maheno Restaurant or at the casual Sand Bar’s Bistro. Sip cocktails or a refreshing beer at the Pool Bar or Sunset Bar and party the night away at the nearby Dingo Bar.

Kingfisher Bay Resort is the perfect base from which to explore this incredible sand Island. Join in on one the resort’s many ranger-guided walks, learning about the islands flora and fauna, as well as about the indigenous Butchulla people and nibble on native berries and bush tucker utilised in the resort’s restaurants.
