Full accommodation information

Discover a wealth of unique experiences during a relaxing getaway at Mt Mulligan Lodge, from touring Mount Mulligan Township to exploring Ngarrabullgan’s picturesque south via ATV.

Set outside of Cairns, and only accessible via a 2.5–3-hour 4WD or 35-minute helicopter flight, this remote luxury lodge is the ultimate off-grid escape – and part of your experience is the journey itself. If travelling via private 4WD, be aware that the roads are partly unsealed and challenging in places. As for helicopter transfers, simply enjoy the sweeping aerial views of the 180-million-year-old Daintree Rainforest, lush Atherton Tablelands and rugged mountainside terrain during your journey.

Perfect for an intimate honeymoon, the luxury lodge makes the most of its scenic outback territory. There are optional Bespoke Experiences such as ‘Dining Under the Stars’, featuring a sumptuous seven-course meal, or ‘Gorge Sunset Hike’, including sunset watching over the Hodgkinson Basin.

Also ideal for a family break, there are plenty of opportunities for learning about the area’s fascinating past. The hotel, which is a working cattle station, includes Signature Experiences like a tour of Tyrconnell Gold Mine and thrilling water-based activities on the weir. During an exploration of Mount Mulligan Township, you’ll uncover the tragic history of Queensland’s worst mining disaster which took 75 workers' lives in 1921 – and walk around the derelict remains which now reside.

With space for just 28 guests at any one time, you’ll get to soak in the stunning sights in utter peace. Both contemporary and luxurious, yet retaining its raw external charm, the lodge acts as your own personal sanctuary. Inside, the earthy tones of plush linen and lavish leather furniture give a rich sense of place. Outside, the private deck provides uninterrupted views of the beautiful outback. So, whether it’s the Outback Room, Suite or Pavilion you choose, your stay will be nothing but relaxing.

Back at the property, you’ll find the main pavilion – the social hub of the lodge which features an infinity pool, sunset bar and a communal table for serving meals. Additionally, all meals are included in your stay alongside quality Australian wines, beers and soft drinks plus house spirits.

Not only that, but Mount Mulligan combines perfectly with Orpheus Island and Silky Oaks for the ultimate Reef, Outback and Rainforest luxury travel experience.

Overlooking a beautiful eucalyptus-fringed weir, each room type at Mt Mulligan Lodge provides the ultimate getaway. With uninterrupted views of the Northern Queensland outback and spacious guest quarters for lounging in, this stunning sanctuary is the best setting for your Australian adventures.

For the most luxurious stay, we recommend the Outback Room, Suite or Pavilion.

With a range of signature and bespoke experiences to choose from, your stay is made seriously special as well. The outback is home to a vibrant wildlife population which you can meet on a guided tour while the weir is ideal for watersports, such as kayaking and paddle boarding, or even fishing.

And due to all the incredible activities and experiences at Mt Mulligan Lodge, couples can enjoy a unique honeymoon like no other. Instead of spending your first escape as newlyweds at a luxury hotel in the city, opt for the intimacy and seclusion of a peaceful property immersed in nature.

Discover what remains of Mount Mulligan’s ghost town and explore the once operational Tyrconnell Gold Mine on one of your included Signature Experiences. Whether it’s navigating the outback tracks via ATV or watching the sunset over Hodgkinson Valley, there’s an activity designed to make your visit extra special. At Mt Mulligan Lodge, there’s an outback adventure tailored for everyone’s tastes.

Alternatively, you can take part in a range of Bespoke Experiences. Celebrating a special occasion? Then the ‘Dining Under the Stars’ experience is a must-do as you’ll enjoy an intimate seven-course meal under a blanket of flickering stars. How about a scenic helicopter flight over Ngarrabullgan or a guided nature walk around the weir? Then book your place for an unforgettable memory.

At Mount Mulligan Lodge, key sustainability issues are tackled by focusing on the goals where the hotel can have its biggest impact. During your stay, $50 is donated to Morris Family Foundation’s Reef Keepers Fund to support projects that work to protect and preserve the Great Barrier Reef. Reusable drink bottles are provided with the aim to minimise single-use plastics, eWater is used as a substitute for harsh cleaning chemicals and solar energy partly powers the lodge. And where possible, the hotel works with local suppliers in the Far North Queensland region to source local, organic, free range, fair trade, biodynamic and sustainably farmed products.
