Full accommodation information

Bamurru Plains puts you in the heart of Australia’s untamed wilderness, with exclusive access to 300 square kilometres of savanna woodlands, coastal floodplains and paperbark swamps on the edge of UNESCO’s World Heritage site, Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory.

Immerse yourself in an Australian bush experience, where the floodplains harbours one of the world’s largest densities of saltwater crocodiles and over 100,000 magpie geese make their annual migration.

The lodge sits on a vast river frontage, comprising of ten safari-style bungalows with mesh walls on three sides, designed so you can see and hear the profusion of bird and wildlife around you from the comfort of your bed.

The main lodge is where guests mingle, read a book and enjoy breakfast and hosted dinners. There is a BBQ firepit on the main deck and wet edge swimming pool with panoramic views of the floodplains and beautiful remote wilderness.

A variety of guided experiences are included which take place early morning and late afternoon; take a game drive in an open-sided safari vehicle in search of buffalo, dingoes and wallabies. Glide along the Mary River system in search of estuarine crocodiles and skim across the floodplains by airboat, seeing thousands of plumed whistling-ducks, egrets, magpie geese and a host of other birds take flight as you zip across the water. Optional activities, such as day trips to Kakadu National Park, scenic flights by light aircraft or helicopter and private fishing safaris can be arranged at an additional cost.

Early mornings start with hearty breakfast items such as freshly baked muffins, ‘bush eggs’ with bacon or house muesli with bush apple and Manuka honey. Lunch is normally served on the observation deck while bush canapes and sundowners are enjoyed in the wilderness on your afternoon activity. You will be hosted by one of your field guides at dinner, where menus are created using native ingredients including bush spices and plants, kangaroo skewers and crispy barramundi.

At Bamurru Plains you can totally disconnect from modern technology - here there is no mobile phone reception, wi-fi, television or radio, the only sounds you will hear will be the song of birds at dawn, the serenade of croaking frogs at dusk and of the prolific wildlife that has made this beautiful wilderness home.

Bamurru Plains is open from 1 May – 31 October, the camp is not suitable for children under 6 years of age.

Ensuring that guests always feel connected to the wildlife surrounding them, all accommodation features mesh screens as three of the surrounding walls. Without WiFi or even mobile reception, becoming part of nature is easier than ever.
