Hotel information
This eye-catching heritage-listed building is a fine example of the preservation and restoration going on in Sydney’s historic Rocks district.
The former site of Sydney’s first hospital was purchased by local lawyer George Evans, who constructed Evan’s Stores warehouses in 1887. These colonial sandstone buildings are of late Victorian Italianate style and were converted into a hotel in 1989, with many of its historic elements being covered over during the restoration. The hotel’s most recent restoration celebrates the building’s great historical significance by bringing back to life its beautiful architectural features, creating a unique setting and charming ambience.
The hotel offers 59 rooms which offer modern style and also preserve the historic charm of the building and area. Set right in the heart of The Rocks district, it offers a quiet oasis just moments away from Sydney’s bustling harbourfront, and some of Australia’s most iconic attractions, including Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
Discover the tranquillity of the garden terrace or relax in the exquisite lobby lounge and library. On the ground floor, you will find the sophisticated Eric’s Bar, specialising in boutique wines from across the globe. Tayim Restaurant & Bar serves regional cuisine with a Middle-Eastern Influence, in an elegant dining room providing a fine dining experience in a space steeped in history.
If your stay includes a weekend, be sure to visit the colourful Rocks Market that fills the cobblestoned lanes with more than 200 stalls selling fashion from emerging designers, street food and original art and crafts.
For a room with views, the Harbour View Suite will not disappoint, with its private terrace commanding fabulous views over the rooftops of The Rocks district and out to Sydney Opera House.
