Hotel information
Wrapped around two large central swimming pools and a sun patio, with glorious gardens to match, the Victoria Can Tho Resort is a Hau riverside hotel that often feels a world away from the much busier banks of central Can Tho, just a few minutes’ walk away.
In fact, those manicured lawns, sweet-smelling flowers and the exotic foliage cushioning Victoria Can Tho act as such a little sanctuary that the hotel’s tranquil treatment and wellness rooms are actually dotted around them. Housed in classic thatched huts, often seen in the central and southern regions of Vietnam, they each provide an extra special environment for your therapies. Whether starting your day with an invigorating body scrub amongst morning bird song or making your way for a twilight massage under a blanket of stars, this is the place to be.
Having such easy access to the Hau River and wider Mekong Delta will also benefit you no end during your stay in Can Tho. The reason, is that not only are the surrounding landscapes easily admired from various vantage points on the estate itself, but the river and countryside are indeed an intrinsic part of life here; best explored either on a boat trip from the property or perhaps by bike.
The décor scheme at Victoria Can Tho Resort is then a nice mix of vintage-style balconies and marble bathrooms meeting lots of dark wood, from the floor to the furnishings, warm hues throughout and touches of modern design where it works.
This goes from the crisp linens and mod-cons in guestrooms to a tennis court, gym and kids’ area elsewhere. And at the end of every day, head to Spice Restaurant for a wide-ranging menu to be enjoyed either inside or out on the patio, accompanied by river views.
Room Options
Bedecked with polished dark wood floors which are then complemented by soft yellows, clean whites and patterned throws, guestrooms at Victoria Can Tho Resort feel both authentic and suitably upmarket at the same time. Traditionally-styled furnishings and touches of Vietnamese design go on to create an accessible environment, while touches such as a balcony, air-con plus a ceiling fan, satellite TV, tea and coffee facilities and a minibar are always welcome. So too a rain shower and bathtub in some, generally large floorplans across the board and a separate furnished lounge area in the higher category rooms.
Superior Room
Simple décor with bursts of quintessential Vietnamese colours make the Superior Room a calm, homely space to return to after a day of sightseeing. This room has a side view and French doors with no physical balcony (rather than one looking over the pool or river), though a generous entry-level room, nonetheless.Deluxe Room
Opt for a Deluxe Room and enjoy sitting back on your private balcony with a view of the sparkling swimming pool, or the beautiful gardens and river below. Boasting a well-placed sofa and floor to ceiling windows too, if cooling down in your air-conditioned Deluxe Room is preferable, you can still catch a glimpse of what lies outside all the while.Suite
With just eight to choose from, the Suite is certainly more exclusive and also overlooks the Hau River for prime views. Delve into your free minibar and soak it all in from either of two balconies, a wonderful way to spend the evening.Facilities/Amenities
A well-equipped gym and floodlit tennis court will keep active types busy, with two swimming pools providing an excellent place to cool down afterwards. Shuttles running to and from town can quickly transport anyone not keen on the walk and, after a day of exploring wider Mekong, a treatment at one of Victoria’s thatched spa gazebos is surely the perfect way to round things off.
Restaurants & Bars
Spices Restaurant
In a light-hearted nod to the region’s famous nearby waterways, a mock-up boat takes centre stage in the hotel’s only restaurant, doubling up as a table for buffet items, of course. Fragrant Vietnamese specialities bursting with lemongrass, ginger and coriander will give you an authentic taste of the area, while European-inspired cuisine is also on offer for anyone craving a little taste of home while away.
- Breakfast
- Lunch
- Dinner
Cuu Long Bar
Enjoy a mid-afternoon, refreshing fruit juice and come back after dark for a game of billiards and a cold beer at Cuu Long Bar. This laidback tavern has seating both inside and out, so whether you wish to take your cocktails into a cosy corner or sit under an inky night sky with a glass of wine, Kowloon bar is a wonderful place to end the day.
Activities & Entertainment
A visit to Can Tho is not complete without a tour around the amazing floating market. And once you’ve been inspired by the kaleidoscope of colourful fruit and vegetables that will no doubt sail past you while there, why not head back to the hotel and sign up for a cookery lesson. Ran by Victoria Can Tho’s culinary team, you will be taken to buy your fresh produce before learning the skilful art of Vietnamese cooking and of course, then get to sample the end result.
For further exploration of the complex river and canal system in the area jump aboard the Lady Hau, Victoria’s very own floating restaurant and watch the world go by as you feast on delicious, freshly prepared regional favourites. Available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, whether you like an early start and are keen to see the morning sun or a night owl, wishing to soak up the evening atmosphere, this leisurely cruise will not disappoint.
