Full accommodation information

Tucked away on the slopes of Keliki Valley in Bali lies Capella Ubud, a luxury tented camp that certainly has the wow factor.

This super luxe, super cool safari-lodge style complex has been purpose built to feel both intimate and unique, as abodes connected by elevated walkways flaunt secluded swimming pools, terraces and daybeds, plus individual design elements you simply won’t find anywhere else. The décor scheme throughout Capella Ubud is a charming though sophisticated take on early pioneering adventure, all thick wooden travel chests, Victorian-style telephones and antiques strewn on walls and book shelves. This, mixed with Indo-inspired furnishings and a flurry of contemporary touches and semi-natural grounds between every building, truly sets the scene.

Then, each restaurant, bar, luxury tent or lounge area is positioned somewhere separate on the hillside, all among the trees and connected by walkways. So while this fact means the property is not suitable for children under the age of 6 or those with mobility issues, it does afford guests here a magnificent feeling of forest isolation, as almost every space is entirely encompassed by tropical trees or enjoys canopy views; there are not even TVs here in a bid to maintain the area’s natural tranquillity. Capella Ubud’s long saltwater swimming pool is just as scenic, and here you’ll also find an outdoor cocktail bar plus a secret spa and gym further up the hill. Two gourmet restaurants, an Officer’s Tent of games and books, yoga and Pilates, plus cooking and cultural classes complete the onsite attractions at Capella, though nearby are endless outdoor adventures, mountain biking trails, trekking, helicopter rides and local markets to visit. It all adds up to a characterful, supremely comfortable, uniquely designed and enchantingly run luxury tented camp in Bali, that really stands out from the crowd.

The 22 one-bedroom luxury tents at Capella Ubud marry an irresistible décor scheme of old-world charm, safari-esque elements and antique ornaments with style and lots of space; plenty of discreet mod-cons are then thrown in too. Each secluded abode offers a healthy 1,862sq ft of space, private plunge pools and a furnished decking area, 24-hour personal assistant, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, an espresso machine plus indoor and outdoor bathrooms with a distinct copper bathtub. Refreshingly, TVs and sound systems are only available on request, and then come with headsets to ensure the tranquillity of the jungle is maintained at all times. A complimentary giftset for every guest also includes earplugs for a perfect night’s sleep, as well as sun cream, organic face mist, insect repellent and a rain poncho. You’ll also receive a complimentary smartphone on arrival for use during your stay. The only difference between any tented casita is their position around the grounds and therefore view, though Capella Ubud does also provide a two-bedroom lodge which is a good option if travelling to Bali as a family or group.

For such a remote luxury tented camp in Bali, Capella Ubud is surprisingly well-equipped, from its resort-standard facilities to a host of thoughtful little extras. On top of the lounge, restaurant, bar and decking areas there’s also a charming firepit that’s surrounded by comfy chairs and an outdoor cinema screen, plus one or two al fresco dining tables too. An onsite Auriga Wellness Spa simply must be visited at least once during your stay, on top of a gym, yoga and Pilates classes, a stunning saltwater swimming pool surrounded by trees and the Officers Tent. Here you’ll find another lounge area and library of books, magazines and board games. There’s also Wi-Fi throughout the property, complimentary shuttles into Ubud, laundry service and a fantastic concierge.

Both outdoor activities and onsite entertainment come thick and fast at Capella Ubud, with countless walking and biking routes, nature, wildlife and birdwatching trails, culture and adventure tours all to enjoy from this remote Bali lodge. You can climb or hike around Mount Batur, helicopter ride over nearby Nusa Penida Island, go jungle trekking from Koko Bambu passing waterfalls and rivers, or take on a jungle boot camp with one of Capella’s own expert guides, as well as the surrounding temples, markets, rice paddies and viewpoints to discover. Capella Ubud then put on various cultural demonstrations and traditional ceremonies for their guests, cooking and chocolate making classes too, plus cinema night for a cosy up and film under the stars.
