Hotel information
An award-winning riverside lodge that gives you instant access to the South Luangwa National Park, where some of Zambia’s best wildlife spotting areas await.
Chinzombo Lodge consists of just six villas, a beautiful alfresco dining terrace and central fire pit surrounded by comfy sofas, making it one of Zambia’s most boutique safari lodges – and the experience is all the better for it.
As a result, your game drives and wildlife walks will be personally tailored here, and with so few fellow guests (therefore small groups) it’s even easier to fully appreciate the species you happen to spot along the way. And, being situated right on the banks of the Luangwa River, you’ll be treated to a more diverse range of excursions than most, with sunset boat tours and so-called ‘Jetset Safaris’ an absolute must, on top of their overnight camps under the stars, daytime and evening photo safaris and gentle, guided wildlife walks too.
Then, the One-bedroom and Family Villas at Time + Tide Chinzombo all come with a lounge, deep-soak bathtub and twin vanity sinks, plus a private plunge pool and veranda which is perfect for either a romantic meal delivered straight to your door or in-villa massage after a fun-filled day on safari. They are all standalone abodes too, meaning ultimate privacy and nothing but Luangwa National Park views for company. Another unique aspect to these individual villas – as with the rest of Time + Tide Chinzombo – is their décor and design, each being charmingly adorned to reflect the pioneering days of safari adventure: think antique travel chests, vintage-style lamps, retro ceiling fans and a generally nostalgic feel throughout.
This, added to bespoke handmade furnishings and locally-inspired sculptures, decorative riverside pools and the fine-dining gastronomic journey enjoyed at the Time + Tide Chinzombo restaurant and bar, all add up to make this five-star, boutique safari lodge in South Luangwa really stand out.
Room Options
There are 6 standalone villas at Time + Tide Chinzombo: one Family Villa consisting of two bedrooms and the other five being One-bedroom options, which are perfect for couples. Each is set within its own little enclave so feels nicely private, a fact you can enjoy from your plunge pool or extensive veranda either looking out towards the Luangwa River or surrounding plains. The spaces themselves fit this environment perfectly, being semi-open-air on the side that leads to the veranda and opting for a nostalgic décor scheme inside, all antique chests, canvas chairs and a bedroom area protected by heavy wraparound curtains. That said, as sentimental as some of the design touches seem, these are still thoroughly modern spaces with contemporary bathrooms and a deep-soak standalone tub as standard, comfy king-size beds, twin vanity sinks and (intermittent) Wi-Fi. Then, if really looking to make the most of this privacy and of course the magical setting, why not order a gourmet meal straight to your door, or perhaps an in-villa massage while here?
One-bedroom Villa
An elegant and airy space with a roll-up frontage, spacious veranda, private plunge pool and lounge area, available with either a king-size or twin bed setup.Family Villa
The Family Villa at Time + Tide Chinzombo is slightly larger and comes with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, so is ideal if visiting Zambia as a family.Facilities/Amenities
Time + Tide Chinzombo keeps things refreshingly down to earth when it comes to their onsite facilities and services, with no gym, spa (though in-room massages can be arranged) or central swimming pool to take away from its all-natural riverside setting; Wi-Fi and phone signal are also limited. Each villa does come with its own private pool however, and you can dine out on your veranda if preferred too, while the team here will take care of everything from excursions to laundry during your stay.
Restaurants & Bars
Time + Tide Chinzombo Dining
The setting for Time + Tide Chinzombo’s restaurant and bar area could not be more perfect; a polished al fresco deck overlooking the Luangwa River, peppered with nicely spaced dining tables, sofas and a firepit for evenings under the stars. The gourmet cuisine here does use locally sourced ingredients as part of their sustainability ethos, though the daily-changing menus take their inspiration from all over the world, which makes for a real gastronomic treat at mealtimes.

Activities & Entertainment
Time + Tide Chinzombo is a top safari camp to discover the best of South Luangwa National Park, with a changeable calendar of wildlife watching, game drives and night safaris to enjoy depending on the time of year you visit. Being situated right on the banks of the Luangwa River, boat tours are also a big part of the attraction here, as well as photo safaris on the search for Lions and Leopards, wild dogs and a host of native bird species, walking tours and even camping out under the stars. You can book an in-room massage at the end of each day, or perhaps a private meal for two on the plains, though Chinzombo’s cosy central firepit and outdoor sofas will only ever be shared by a handful of fellow guests, with only six villas available here, after all.
