Full accommodation information

Located on the banks of the Sand River, MalaMala Game Reserve is one of the oldest and largest private game reserves in South Africa.

Stay in one of three camps – MalaMala Camp, Sable Camp and Rattray’s Camp – offering a range of luxurious rooms and suites. Decorated in traditional African style with high-end amenities, find your perfect place to unwind between game drives with some boasting river views, plunge pools, outdoor showers and private decks.

When you’re not tracking lions and elephant across the bush, take a dip in MalaMala’s pool, enjoy a massage, escape the heat of the sun in the lounge or sample South Africa’s finest tipples from the camp’s wine cellar.

Set yourself up for adventurous days with a hearty breakfast in the African-themed dining room and experience the magic of a South African barbeque under the stars at the camp’s traditional reed ‘boma’. Swing by the bar for a night cap and swap stories of animal sightings with fellow travellers.

Fun for all the family, MalaMala Camp’s dedicated children’s program is designed to help little ones make the most out of their safari experience. Master basic survival skills, learn how to track animals in the wild and help with meal prep at an interactive ‘bush breakfast’.

When not travelling across the reserve spotting all manner of game, enjoy MalaMala’s luxury facilities.

Swim in the camp’s pool and spot wildlife from the cooling depths of its tranquil waters. Or work up a sweat at the small Fitness Facility, complete with elliptical machines and free weights.

Relax and socialise with fellow travellers in the inviting lounge area or get lost in a good book in the air-conditioned library (available at MalaMalaCamp), with its range of titles, TV and DVD player for cosy movie evenings.

Sample South Africa’s finest tipples at MalaMala’s incredible wine cellar or head to the camp’s bar for night cap. Plus, enjoy the full safari camp experience at the traditional boma, made from reeds and situated under an ancient jackalberry tree.

Capture the magic of South Africa on MalaMala’s dedicated Photography Safari. Travel in vehicles with camera-friendly enhancements and take stunning wildlife images. Benefit from the expertise of a ranger with intuitive knowledge of animal behaviour and experience of positioning these vehicles for the best shots.

MalaMala Camp also welcomes little ones and offers a fun and educational children’s activity programme. Learn basic survival skills and how to track various animals by identifying their spoor markings. Have fun communicating over the radio used on game drives and help prepare tasty meals at a ‘bush breakfast’ session, exclusively at MalaMala Camp.

Beyond fascinating game drives, guests can also embark on guided bush walks to encounter things you would not otherwise see in a vehicle. Led by experts, follow animal tracks, observe amazing bird life, unique flora and smaller species of wildlife.
