Lion Sands is located on the Southern Sabi Sand Game Reserve with 17,000 acres of pristine Big 5 territory and the only Reserve in South Africa to offer safaris in both the Sabie and Sand River ecosystems. Lions Sands comprises four exclusive safari lodges, River Lodge is the larger of the four with 20 luxurious thatched rooms, two swimming pools, river front deck, fitness centre and spa.
Each of the Luxury Suites face the Sabie River and feature a thatched roof and private wooden viewing deck, the Superior Luxury Suites are more spacious with luxury canopied beds facing towards the Sabie River and feature spacious bathrooms with an outdoor shower.
Lion Sands is known as one of the finest safari areas in South Africa with one of the highest densities of wildlife per square hectare. Lion Sands is home to Africa's 'Big 5', Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Elephant and Rhino. The rangers will skillfully attempt to track down the 'Big 5', and are an encyclopedia of knowledge and are always on the look out for game, birdlife, mammals and insects to ensure you experience the bush fully.
Activities at Lion Sands River Lodge begin with an early morning wake up call, tea and coffee before your morning game drive in open safari vehicles, each vechile will cater for a maximum of 6 guests. Return for breakfast/brunch and then you are free to either relax on the terrace of your luxurious suite or join the rangers on bush walks, river walks, hippo tours or try your hand a clay pigeon shooting. Lunch and afternoon tea are served at the lodge before your late afternoon game drive followed by dinner at the lodge, this may be in the main lodge, under the stars on the terrace or a feast in the Boma or maybe a surprise bush dinner.
For those that wish to experience something quite unique and sleep out under the stars and listen to the sounds of the wilderness in the bush, for an additional cost you can stay at the Chalkley Treehouse, a luxurious king size four poster bed set on a platform high up in the treetops.
Lion Sands River Lodge accepts children aged 10 years and over
